Anyone else feel that tonight's NYE celebrations in BKK may well come in with a Bang. And not a good one.

Don't think I'd wanna be celebrating in the same location as the protesters tonight!

Until the red shirt faction came to town, Jataporn and company threw out the taunts/threats, which seemly resulted in a student killed, as were 3 or 4 redshirts, things seemed peaceful. Then the subsquent overnight disappearance of the redshirt protest/threat/mob, appointment of a new head of CAPO and now we are seeing protestor injuries/fataliaties on a fairly regular basis.

Now I am not one to schedule a photo shoot and point the finger of fate at accused individuals, but The "caretaker Prime Minister" and her favorite goons do seem noticed by their absence.on the front lines, or at least within 100 kilometer of them.We have a target to shoot at for the opposition protestors, but where are the susposed to be leaders of the pro government and the 'caretaker government???

He's covered by the PTP 30 baht scheme, but I am sure he will be comforted to know his pain and suffering amuses and entertains you.

Indeed, the disgusting trolling is revolting.

Voluntary guard shot, injured near STR rally site
The Nation

It appears that his condition changed.

The BP reports that the guard, a taxi driver, was shot twice in the torso and subsequently died.

The police asked for permission to inspect the area of the shooting as the anti-government protesters have declared their venue as "restricted area".

The anti-Thaksinistas have become a de-facto parallel (unelected) government.

The attitude of the RTP is expected as they are dysfunctional, corrupt and without a true sense of duty.

90% of the members of the RTP are either the result of political payments, bought out by the officers from higher ups and the rest, token members who have come to fill the ranks taking the place of retired officers.

Resident anti-Thaksinistas, please, if you dispute this data and demand I prove it I say: prove me wrong with data and facts, not with feelings or opinions, but data and facts. Labeling and name calling are the only way the impotent can address an issue. Debate the issue do not take it ad hominem.

More lies from the pro-Thaksinistas.

BP does NOT report that the man died, only that he has been shot and is wounded.

One protest guard shot on Ratchadamnoen Nok road

BANGKOK: -- One protest guard was shot and seriously wounded by unidentified gunmen at a protest site at Suan Miksakawan on Ratchadamnoen Nok road late Monday night.

The victim, 43-year old Mr Pokkate Boonyok, a taxi driver who volunteered to serve as a guard of the Network of Students and People for Reform of Thailand, was on duty behind the sandbagged bunker installed to protect protesters following two earlier gun and giant firecracker attacks the nights before.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants arrived near the scene of the protest site of the NSPRT and opened fires with unspecified weapons into the crowd of protesters and guards.

Pokkate was shot twice in the back and body. He was later rushed to the nearest hospital and his condition was described as serious. Luckily, no protesters were wounded in the indiscriminate attack.

Shortly afterward, the same group of assailants went to another protest site of the People’s Army at Makkawan bridge and opened fires. No one was hurt however.

These despicable acts continue, as people continue to express their right to protest. Donations for the treatment of this man would likely be gratefully appreciated, as an act to affirm that we are all human beings, regardless of political affiliations. The much-celebrated 30 baht health plan is often highly overestimated, however. Yes, it will cover a doctor consultation and some pills at a public hospital after a long wait. But ask any poor person in this country who becomes seriously ill, or has an accident, or needs surgery, and ask if the 30 baht plan will cover that, and they will look at you as if you are truly crazy. Operations are often deferred, painkillers issued, and bed-rest prescribed, and doctor visits are often routinely three minutes or less in duration. Nothing is truly free in this or any other country, although there are specific programmes - like the treatment of HIV - which are laudably progressive and are admittedly substantially subsidized by the government. The 30 baht plan will not help this man, however, which is why, incidentally, that the PDRC publicly donates for the care of the injured, and the sums frequently quoted at one million baht. So donations can help. And at least, wishes for a speedy recovery. Some sentiments expressed here are cruel, unspeakable and shameful.

A lot of these so called protesters have no political ideology. They see this as a fashionable thing to do with their friends. They go to the protests to take a selfie for their Facebook page. Several times I have seen white faced young female protesters cover their faces in shame when the Bluesky cameras focus on them. For them it is a mere extension of queuing for Krispy Cremes or the latest coloured Iphone. Now that the protesters have escalated the protest into an armed insurgency, I'm sure their ranks of docile groupies will be severely diminished.

You make your bed, you lay in it! As for "donations", I don't think so. Dear Leader Suthep has already stated he would "take care of" the wounded and dead, so that falls on his shoulders, and I feel the same with the Reds - let Thaksin pay for it.

My sympathy is for people who get caught up in tragedies not of their own making, not for mindless idiots who get caught up the stupid political mechanization of Thai "politics".

BANGKOK, Dec 31 -- A volunteer guard of Thailand's anti-government protest group was wounded in a gun attack at Misakawan intersection on Rajdamnoen Avenue late last night.

The victim was identified as Pokket Boonyok, 45, a taxi driver who was a volunteer guard of the Network of Students and People for the Reform of Thailand (NSPRT), a splinter group of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC).

He received a body wound and was sent to Ramathibodi Hospital for treatment, and is now recovering.

The witnesses said that a pickup truck carrying several assailants passed the scene and used more than one weapon to fire more than 10 bullets into the protest site before driving away.

Sometimes you read these stories here in the press and on TV and you get confused. Your would think 2 to 3 people were shot instead of 1. Each story has the same beginning but a different ending.

WhyBother, I won't call you a yellow shirt "apologist" or even "supporter" it's not my style and if anything I always thought you were one of the more sensible yellow leaning posters .

So I'll tell you something candidly. you can choose to believe me or not.

The only reason I post the way I do here is because I think the current PDRC strategy plays into Thaksin's hand. The continuous us against them insures Thaksin will stay in power for 15 years more, and god forbid he dies abroad we'll have five generation worth. Yellow shirts will never get anywhere with feeds insulting and patronizing a large part of the voting population they need to change from within if they ever want to have any chance to succeed. Dems have the most to gain by reaching out. The 3rd is the day Abhisit declared a state of emergency but if even a smart guy like you will butt heads endlessly for the sake of that argument what chances does the country have?

I can only surmise that ant life and health insurance policies issued in Thailand will soon have an exclusion for actions opposing the Shinawatra family as more and more people are killed and injured in this hazardous endeavour. Family policies for protest leaders will be be exorbitant.

Nothing personal, just business.

You could couple it with a thank you to WB for once again educating another history re-writer.

Case in point, if I was a red shirt supporter you could use this opportunity to convince me but you'd rather name call.

Go Yellow win...Go Red shirt win...advitam eternam.

The trouble is they never will find the person that did the ACTUAL shooting. People wil just blame this group or this group or the other group, and we will still never know. That whole area is a hot bed and everyone knows it.

Yea know - it is extremely possible tht suthep has ordered his hoodlems to do this and make others look bad. I am just saying. Dont leave anything out. You got to think of everything, well, if you can.

Say what?!? So when a group of people did nothing more than block traffic for a month until the tanks came in they should have gone home and deserved all they got but when another group of people immediately storm government buildings, TV station, forcefully prevent other parties ( including minority parties they claim to represent) from entering registration centers they are "expressing their right to protest". The Yellow shirt double standard makes the mind boggle.rolleyes.gif

You clearly have NO idea what happened in 2010. They did a hell of a lot more than 'block traffic' as you put it. Try reading some contemporary unbiased reports...
