Hi board, yesterday I went to Chiang mai immigration to do my 90 day report and to obtain my re-entry permit for my visit to the U. S. this summer to protect my last 365 day "admitted until" date of Feb. 11 2007 gotten in BKK when I made my last entry on my (now expired, since Feb.15) multi entry OA visa. All went very smoothly there,in spite of the crowded conditions. After paying my 1,000 baht for the re-entry permit and waiting for the return of my passport I decided to read the board where the info for the OA retirement extension was posted. It ,of course ,had all the things listed that I knew already..Bank book and letter from bank, health cert.,embassy cert. of pension and income, etc. But it also said,I think it was, listed as item #3,(Im now paraphrasing) Something to the effect of"if one is married to a Thai citizen this information must also be provided" . Is this to say that even if one is applying for their extension of stay based on retirement they must also report the fact that they're married to a Thai? Ive never seen or heard this before here on TV or anywhere else for that matter. Can anyone elaborate? As always, thanx much in advance, the Harpman

That seems to be the rule. I changed from support Thai wife to retirement last year and my wife was required to come to immigration and sign that she understood the change; which I reported here. I suspect some may be using retirement with future plans to dump the wife? :o

Actually it was explained as part of Thai marriage laws such as joint property items.

I assume from what you said that you have got married recently?

Unless you want to change your status from OA (retired) to supporting

a Thai wife. I see no need to mention the change at all.

I changed my address some months ago. I now live in Loei province with my wife. Since it is her house I thought it would be a good idea for her to go to Chiang Khan with me. She likes the 100 kilometer trip anyways. The immigration official wanted to look at her house book and fortunately she had it with her. I'm not sure if it would have made a difference if she had not gone with me but I thought it was a good idea for immigration to know that I am married to a Thai and living in her house.
