I think 2014 is time to get my teeth fixed after years of terrible british dentistry.

I'm a 26 year old guy, so I'll be getting the least visable options.

Anyone have experience, know what kind of costs to expect? Is it possible to do monthly payment plans, considering I live and work here?

Less visible option is invisalign and will cost more, about 150,000-180,000 baht + at a private clinic vs. conventional metal braces which would be about 50,000 baht. Between these two extremes there are clear/tooth-colored braces that run abouyt 80,000 baht (plus or minus), these are not invisible but they are less noticeable than the metal ones.

A less expensive alternative to private clinics, but one that will involve long waits as it is a government facility, is the Mahidol dental hospital http://translate.google.co.th/translate?hl=en&sl=th&u=http://www.dt.mahidol.ac.th/dental_hospital/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmahidol%2Bdental%2Bhospital%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DFHL%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official. I assume they offer invisalign, they definitely do braces.

150k... ouch. Yes it is invisalign I was talking about. I know Thais think braces are narak, but as a teacher, I'd feel too silly wearing metal braces.

Hopefully there are monthly payment plans... having to pay 150k up front would mean saving up first, and not getting them until the middle of this year.

Is it better to go to a hospital dentist (my regulars are Phayathai 2 and BNH), or one of those commercial clinics I see dotted around?

We had to pay up front for Invisalign at Thonglor DC but very happy with the outcome one yr later. You also need to look into the rating of the orthodontist to be sure you get someone who knows what they're doing. I found only 2 in Bangkok at the top of the game in that product.

Another option, cheaper than Invisalign, is sublingual braces - that is, braces which are on the back of the teeth, and so invisible.

As I said most charge a start amount but the bulk is paid in monthly visits for adjustments and replacements. At hospital it has varied by service and at clinics a fixed amount each time. Have paid for several. Talk to them before treatment.

Hi All, I am looking at using Invisalign. But so far I have been to two orthodontist in bkk and they have both wanted full payment upfront. 100,000b when getting mould etc done and the other 80,000b when I receive all the trays for the complete treatment. A bit hesitant because I don't know if I can get it cheaper by a good orthodontist and if I run into any problems, I have already pd in full when the treatment is not complete. Is this normal in Thailand to pay upfront? And what problems can I encounter by using Invisalign...my ortho said I do not really need to see him once I have the trays..except at the end to take off the 'stuck on bits" on my teeth. I am considering using Dr Narandr
Chevangkul at Denta-joy bkk.

get on a bus to any regional town / small city in Issan. It will cost you 1/2 to a 1/3 for same quality. There are some excellent and cheap dentists up here. everything in bkk is a rip off

You may have difficulty finding Invisalign up-country. And, as the bulk of the cost is the patented device itself, probably not that much cost difference if you do.

As said for that treatment suspect the major cost is the device so likely upfront payment is required - for normal brace treatment it is pay as your go with low monthly adjustment cost and a higher cost about every quarter as replacements are done.

As for cheaper price of Issan; you can visit a Soi doctor here in Bangkok for cheap price but you do tend to get what you pay for. And that may include a lot of dirt and dust at some places and the possible current and future pain may not make it worthwhile.

Would also be interested to know the 2 top orthodontists. Thank you, Chatette

Unless a qualified professional dentist "Chatette" is stating opinion based on nothing other than possible personal experience !

A choice of heath care professional should be made on the basis of their stated Qualifications and experience which can be often found on the web.

Western based training/experience is always a positive.

Shakun have u done much research on invisalign in bkk or Asian?? I have only recently become aware that the outcome is dependant upon the orthodontist...I sort of thought because it was all computer generated the orthodontist was almost defunk. I had a consult with Thankitit (?) and although I felt confident with the ortho they were charging me more and quiet pushy for the business. I had also read that some clients had had experiences of them adding hidden un-expected fees, so I looked elsewhere.

I haven't done much research on invisalign. I know it is offered in Thantakit. I had an implant made by them with good results. Regarding the orthodontist I would still be interested in Chatette's personal experience. Qualification is of course very important, but so is skill.

How would "skill" be evaluated ?

Just asking .

Sorry for my lack of responses here. I dropped off the thread. The two Invisalign dentists I referred to are rated top in Thailand for the product by Invisalign itself, not me. Dr Thiti at Thanakart has been mentioned above. We use Dr Raungyos Onsaard at Thonglor Dental Hospital. The treatment is nearly complete and the result is outstanding. Only additional cost is 100 baht service charge per visit and cost of veneers. The hospital is excellent to deal with, also. I might mention that I've also been a Mahidol Dental Hospital patient for many years, and while general treatment is somewhat cheaper, work involving specialised technology is not. While I didn't look for Invisalign there as the location and waits were inconvenient for this extended treatment, I did get a quote for an implant that was marginally cheaper than a commercial clinic (and didn't go ahead with it there for entirely unrelated reasons).

Tocache, Apologies for the very delayed response as I haven't been following the thread. Very limited English at Mahidol at the booking process but most dentists can communicate clearly enough. Once you're in the system, bookings are relatively flexible. Probably easiest to go in person for the first booking.

Perhaps around 50000-80000 Baht depending on the type. Have you tried checking out Thantakit Dental? It's one of the first-rate dental clinics in BKK. I've heard that they were the ones who first launched the Invisalign technology in Thailand. Your dental coverage from your health insurance may possibly help too in lessening the costs. Yeah, you'd ought to save more if you get your braces or any other major dental treatments in Thailand, including your airfare, hotel and travel expenses, rather than spend tons for it in AUS, UK or US.

Check with Bangkok Smile Dental. The price is somewhere between 39000-55000 depending on types of braces. What i like most is their payment plan offered exclusively for some major credit cards.

is it possible to get braces for lower teeth and Invisalign for the upper?my bottom teeth hardly ever show so im thinking this can lessen the costs as i dont really need invisalign for my bottom teeth and normal braces will do, does anyone know if this is possible?

According to my girlfriend's sister who is a dentist, and that although she's not an orthodontist, she doubts that any Invisalign provider will not do that. She'd rather suggest for a cheaper alternative, like Smile Tru, if you're cost-cutting but still want an orthodontic treatment. Like Invisalign, Smile Tru is also a set of clear aligners. She said it's available in various clinics around the city, like Bangkok Smile Clinic,. Maybe you can check on their website or give them a call.

I would avoid clear plastic trays. I had them and would not do it again.

The problem is your teeth are encased in plastic for 23+ hrs a day for 1-2 years! think about what happens when a organic material is wrapped in plastic... it rots. I needed major dental work after the treatment, 2 root canals and numerous fillings.

The other problem is the plastic tray gets disgusting after 2-3 days by 6th day they are covered in bacteria. I used to scrub them with dish soap but it didn't help much.

Go with traditional braces and go to an orthodontist.

You might also do some research into the toxicity of pvc plastic.
