VISA upon entry - Brazilian and US Passports

Featured Replies

Hello there! This is my first post here!

I am moving to Bangkok on Jan 24th. I'm excited! Already got my ticket.

I don't have a VISA yet. I'm not sure where to get one. However, I do see here, at the very bottom of the page:

http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123/15383-List-of-countries-which-have-concluded-Agreements.html

Since I have a Brazilian passport (dual citizen US & Brazil), can I just enter Thailand and get a 90 day VISA exempt stay at the airport checkpoint?

Or do I need to still do this ahead of time? And if so, what is the best place to do it? (No Thai embassies near me, although I will be in Los Angeles for a couple of days on 1/9.)

So which is best…

1. Go to Thai Embassy in LA and handle it?

2. Handle it online (which website?)

3. Just enter Thailand and present my Brazilian passport?

And finally, what's the best way for me to maximize my tourist staying-time in Thailand with both my US and Brazilian passports and doing VISA runs? Can I just do a run every 90 days with my Brazilian passport?

Thanks so much for the advice!

If you enter on your Brazilian passport you will get a 90 day visa exempt entry, if you enter on your US passport you will get 30 days.

If you come on your Brazilian passport you can do border runs every 90 days and will get 90 days permission to stay on each entry

If you are in LA you you could get a triple entry tourist visa which will give you almost 270 days with 2 border runs and three extensions.

I think that your best and cheapest option is to use your Brazilian Passport. You can continue to get 90 day entries until you work out exactly what your future plans are and apply for a longer permission to stay - marriage, work, retirement, ED, etc.

The only problem that I can see is that you might, and I say might, run into a problem with the Airline not letting you board your flight without a ticket exiting Thailand during the first 90 days.

Awesome about the 90 day Brazil thing! So convenient :)

Great tip about checking the boarding issue with the airline, I will do that! Thanks
