Hi, I suppose this might be on here somewhere but I'm not sure where to look so I am hoping someone can help me.

I will be moving to Thailand and getting a marriage extension. At the moment my passport has 21 months left and to apply for the original visa I need 18 months. But I will need to leave Thailand and return (it will be a multiple entry visa). Will I be allowed to return if there is less than a year left on my passport at the time. It is my understanding that there will be a year extension from my last entry to Thailand so this is why I am unsure they will allow an entry with a passport that expires before that time.

Thanks.

Once you have your visa is issued your passport validity will no longer matter until you get down to 6 months which then means you will not be able to enter any nearby country for you new 90 day entries.

If you plan on getting an extension of stay you should just get a single entry visa and then do your extension during the last 30 days of your entry.

If you get a multiple entry visa you don't have to wait for your visa to expire to do the extension you can do it during the last 30 days of any entry. But when you do the extension if you don't have a year left on your passport the extension will only be done for the length of your passport validity.
