I also would like to know more about this. I would be surprised if the tax level would be an issue, but i am open for comments. As danone I would really apreciate any experiences from people who have walked this path (preferably recently).

language skills? writing proficiency?

This is the only one I am familiar with. You have to show prathom 6 school (6th grade) level abilities in language - reading, writing, speaking and comprehension. Not sure if you actually have to get a certification from a school though.

From the last correspondence received from Special Branch I understand your level of language skills are determined by a Government Official, but likely to be as tywais states.

If you are married an income of at least 30,000 baht a month is required and taxes filed for last 3 years. If unmarried, 80,000 baht a month or tax of 100,000 baht a year.

These are of course in addition to all the criminal and social checks.

You will not come across that many successful applications where farangs are concerned.

Up to date information and application forms may be obtained from Provincial Police Station, in other than Bangkok.

I got PR about 10 years back).

About 12 months back I asked my lawyer to get an up to date profile of the needs to move on to full citizenship.

Short summary is:

- As already stated in this thread, language skills (reading and writing at least top of Pathom level, converstaion at advanced level).

- Must prove all taxes paid etc. for last 3 years, had legitimate work permit etc

- Must prove again that you don't have a criminal record in country of birth, any other country where you have lived for a significant period of time, and Thailand.

- Must prove that your work contributes very strongly to the development of Thailand (My lawyer suggested that this would be a serious requirement, and that in addition the applicatant would probably need to have several masters degree or a Ph.D. )

- Proof that you have been active for some years in some form of valuable community activity, additionally lawyer suggested proof of substantial donations might be an advantage.

- Ability to sign both the King's song, and the Thai National Anthem.

- Marriage to a Thai not a factor. The application is about you.

- I forget the minimum level of income, however it's quite big.

All of the above generates a certain score.

Additionally, your age at application generates a score. Over 45 and your score from the age factor starts to progressively go down, sharply.

I forget the official fees involed, however I recall it's very substantial.

Lawyer suggested most applications take 2 or 3 years to be processed.

Most of this is correct ,as confirmed by Royal Thai Police Special Branch!

Marriage is not a factor other than your income requirement level is reduced for "reasons of humanity". The application fee is 5,000 baht , unless it has recently increased. Someone may have more up to date statistics, but 2 years ago there were 48 applications, and 10 successes.

You require 50 points for your application to be considered, and your age, education and income level are the highest factors. If you are not relatively young, do not have a good degree and a good job, it is extremely difficult to achieve the level required.
