PATTAYA: -- In a case of mistaken identity, a group of debt collectors, working for a syndicate of illegal money lenders, kidnapped a Vietnamese Flower seller in the early hours of Wednesday, thinking he was one of a group of Cambodian Flower Sellers, who owe the lenders money.

The 6 men aged between 20 and 26 were sent out to round-up a group of Cambodian Flower Sellers who operate on Pattaya Beach who owe the Lenders money. Instead of kidnapping the Cambodians they took a Vietnamese Flower Seller, Mr. Nguyen Van Tu aged 34, who was forced into a Toyota Minivan in an attempt to scare him into paying outstanding debts with the Lenders.

Eventually the men realized they had taken the wrong man and released him.

Yes and after, the kidnappers were also released as they kidnapped the wrong person.

No mention of kidnapping members of the group of flower sellers that owe money so I guess they are fair game. whistling.gif

Just as a matter of interest, even though it was the wrong target, how does the Vietnamese stand now with work permit issues with the police? Or would that just be a Labour office thing? Same would apply to the Cambodians if they were asked to provide statements.

Seriously wondering

Do any of the Cambodians and Vietnamese even have visas as how can they possibly get work permits to sell flowers? Can foreign beggars now get work permits?

isnt kidnapping a criminal offense?

Depends. Obviously its a criminal offense for poor people but for well-to-do, those with connections, or the police, of course its not a criminal offense.

Obviously the ASEAN free trade and labour market liberalization rules apparently cover flower sellers.
