finding cast iron frying pan ?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to find a cast iron frying pan in Thailand ?

Also, I have one of these high tech induction cookers and I am not impressed. Maybe a cast iron pan would work better than the very thin stainless steel pan that came with the cooker ?

(I know you can't use aluminium pans on induction cookers, but I think cast iron would work being similar to steel.)

I saw Lodge cast iron pans for sale in the new Rim Ping supermarket at the Promenada in Chiang Mai. As for not being impressed with the induction cooker, maybe the problem is with the induction cooker. Possibly not powerful enough or just faulty. I have used them and i am very impressed. They are fast and like gas, when you turn it off, the heat stops immediately.

Thanks. An exellent excuse to go back to Chiang Mai for the first time in 20 years. Yeah, I got it in a Christmas party lottery. It is probably the cheapest one you can buy.

Give board member raro a pm. He used to have really great ones for sale cheap.

Induction stoves are great but thin stainless steel is not the best.

Check the cooking gear at macro or central and check for an induction symbol. If it has that it will work well.

Cast Iron is good but can be a bit too efficient and get hotter than the setting says, You will have to play around a little.

Here's Raro's website... http://www.raro.asia

You can find cast iron pans at True Value stores and at Paragon in Bangkok.

I bought an entire range of iron skillets, pans, pots, and griddles at the True Value Hardware store in K-Village in Bangkok.

You can use any ferrous metal pot that is magnetic with the induction cooker. Typically stainless steel is not magnetic, but many manufacturers have made magnetic stainless pots so they can be used on induction cookers. If you want to try a high end heavy stainless pot, take a magnet with you when you go shopping for one.

Have seen them for sale in Villa Market.

I have one from Raro. It's inexpensive and great to cook in. He manufactures in Pattaya. Good communication, good delivery. Poor post woman had to lug it up the driveway. It's heavy.
