Question About Dividing Assets

Featured Replies

I realize that advice this forum is no substitue for legal advice, but I'd just like to get some opinions.

My girlfriend's sister is married to a farang, and she is thinking about divorcing him. He lives in his home country, and she only sees him once or twice a year. Anyhow, she's worried about losing her house if she gets divorced.

The house is in her name, and she bought it before they got married. Does anyone know how assets are divided in Thailand? Or if you have a link where I can do my own reading, that would be appreciated.

Again, I told her she needs to seek council. Thanks TV

If the property was hers before marriage then it will remains hers. (Sin Suan Tua in Thai).

Basically each party is entitled to half the monies generated during the marriage. Debts are included.

Thanks ThaidDown, sounds like it's the same as most Western countries.

1 flame removed.

Under Thai law only the assets that are acquired during the marriage are divided. In addition there is in principle no alimony in Thailand.

But one can negotiate any settlement they want.
