Passport Stamps after having lost the passport and obtaining a new one

Featured Replies

Hello All

First please forgive me if I post this in the wrong location; I am new to the forums and request advice about where to post this. I did not see any threads about Passport et al.

My question is - I have a USA Passport; If I lost my passport and obtain a new one from the embassy what stamps would be placed on the new passport; e.g.; Lets say I cross the border to Myanmar or if I went to Indonesia; then after returning I lost my passport upon issue of the new passport precisely what stamps would be present on the passport. I have a marriage Visa and my last point of entry was from Indonesia in October 2011. Since then I have been renewing my passport at the Thai Immigrations office here in Chiang Mai.

Thank you whoever responds.

My experience has been the American Embassy will give you a letter asking Immigration to transfer your visa after they issue a new passport for what ever reason. I am guessing your record will be in the Immigration computer and can be found. And, hopefully, you have made copies of all the pages (from, say, 90 day reporting) that you can take with you to show Immigration. It should not be too hard to get all the appropriate stamps, specially here in Chiangmai. You are not the first one to have this happen to, so they will know how to take care of you.

I would assume when you say "renewing my passport" at immigration, you mean renewing your extension to your Non-O visa?

Immigration should have photocopies of your last application.

It is always a wise move to keep copies yourself.................wink.png

Yes, most offices would handle several of these every month, totally straightforward, especially if you have photocopies.

Just remain patient no matter what. . .

it is time consuming, but immigration at Chaeng Wattana can replace current stamps like entry, extension and so on. The more paperwork and proof that you can take, the easier it will be.

Lets say I cross the border to Myanmar or if I went to Indonesia; then after returning I lost my passport upon issue of the new passport precisely what stamps would be present on the passport.

Is the OP planning on losing his passport??? Because of some issue about his prior entries stamps (or lack thereof)?

AFAIK, the U.S. Consulate doesn't do anything with stamps when they issue a new passport. Thai Immigration does, upon request. But I believe they only typically transfer your current valid stamps like extension of stay and re-entry permit, and your last entry (or at least make a notation of the place and date). And your original visa reference, assuming you've later been on extensions of stay.

They don't transfer over your entire entry and exit history from your prior passport.
