H5D £13,000+ mmmmmmmmmmmm w00t.gif

Not for the time being sad.png

Timeshare?

Actually it's not as much as I thought it was going to be.

BHPhoto in New York lists it at $26,000 USD for the H5D and they have very competitive pricing. The newer model, H5D-50c is expected to be dearer still. And the price in Thailand? Probably get a nice house and a D800E to photograph it with. biggrin.png

I'm surprised how much it's costing right now to do the front garden. It's walled, it's like another room but outside and I had grass. But seeing as rain never comes here now all the grass died. Sadly.

Anyway, so me and Auntie Angie decided the other day to dig it up and do a dry garden instead. Thought I'd get away with 4 cubic metres of cheap limestone gravel, Ang's dug it so deep we're now around double that. Then the path stones, then the pebbles to go round the path stones, then the brick edging, then the flower pots and the flowers . . . I can see this running to three hundred bloody quid!!!!

I used to be able to build a house here for around a 1m baht, no chance now. I reckon we're running three times that from 10 years back.

So . . . it's an existing house, a silly front garden and a crop format Pentax.

And the back lawns are in a disgraceful state of repair!!!

I never seem to make any progress.

Medium format cameras such as the Hassie are great if the photography you do

requires the size of the sensor. Hassies used to start at 30MP & went up to 60MP.

I had their H4D-50...with a 50MP sensor, hence the "50" designator of the name.

The bodies are very expensive...the lenses you will need are more expensive.

Back in November I sold my H4D plus lenses and am happy with the $$$$ I

received and even happier with the lad who bought it as he mainly does

product photography.

Would I buy another one? No. I say that because my D800 & 800e at 36 MP

is good enough for the mainstay of my work which is mostly news-current affairs

and editorial...plus I still like to use APS-C for that stuff too.

However.....should somebody hand me a Phase One....ahhhhh...me mind may

change...Hah!

Phase one info below....

If you reckon 13K quid is expensive....get a quote from Phase One

on their 645DF+....hold on to your chairs folks!

The mainstay of your work is taking pictures of fit women.

Thankfully.

Sure beats humping cameras in war zones!

You just need to post more of them on here is all.

I wouldn't fancy the war zone stuff. Although try practicing the art of photography when you dig and refill holes for a living. There's only so much tweaking you can do to bring out the beauty in a stockpile of made ground.

^^^ @ MJP...

I used to shoot corporate videos for firms like

Bechtel, Leighton, McConnel Dowel(sp), Maunsel,

Haliburton etc. Last "big" project I did was the

construction of Hong Kong's new airport at Chek

Lap Kok for Bechtel....I know a few things about

holes in the ground, dirt, berms, mud, "ground

treatment" and other stuff. Good $$$$$$$$ in those

corporate vids for those of us who did em when all

others would only do the glamour shoots. Dirt washes

off. Mind you...I like shooting fit chicks much better

these days...however...the Admin's & Mod's may ban me

should I post some fit chick pix here...even if it's

only me missus who usually always agrees to the shoot!

NB...Edit to replace too many "mind you's"...

You didn't meet a bloke called Tony Tough on the airport job by any chance?

I've part directed corporate vids on soil treatment (thermal desorption). I said. Film that and if you even think of having happy kids playing on fresh grass at the end of this . . . .
