Cambodians smuggled in for violent attacks: Navy
The Nation

Senior officer claims 'men in black' here too but police can't find them

BANGKOK: -- A senior Navy officer alleged yesterday that Cambodians have been smuggled into Thailand to carry out violent attacks on anti-government protesters - similar, he said, to what happened prior to the red-shirt turmoil in Bangkok mid-2010.

Rear Admiral Winai Klom-in, commander of the Navy’s Naval Special Warfare Command, said 10 vans carrying Cambodians entered Thailand through the eastern border on Monday night.

"It's the police's work to check this out, with their many detectives available in all jurisdictions. I don't understand why the police have neglected their responsibility on this," he said.

Winai also accused the "men in black" - military men who he said were linked with the pro-government red-shirt movement, of being behind both grenade attacks on crowds of protesters, on Banthad Thong Road during a march last Friday, and at the Victory Monument rally site last Sunday.

One man was killed in the first attack and dozens more injured in both blasts.

"The way the person threw that grenade [on Sunday], in the eye of military-trained people like us, shows where these people were trained.

"To me, I am confident that it's the same training given to the 'men in black' during the red-shirt protests in 2009 and 2010," he said.

Asked if he thought people linked "with state authorities" were behind last Sunday's attack and the 'men in black', Winai said: "The incidents occurred just recently, and, with abundant personnel responsible for investigations, what is being done?

"People across the country are asking the same question, like I would like to ask.

"Whatever you do now, please stop. Thais must not kill Thais, or must not have foreigners kill their countrymen. These things should never happen in Thailand," he said.

Asked if "those in power" planned to play "hard ball" against protesters in the anti-government movement this week, Winai said the violence had escalated long ago.

"I would like to ask what wrong the protesters have done. They have done nothing wrong nor acted violently."

The Navy reaffirmed yesterday that the three armed Navy officers who were detained by police last week were part of a special drug crackdown, its secretary Rear Admiral Kan Diubon said.

They were part of a 10-member team officially working undercover to gather intelligence and information about the smuggling of drugs from the east to the capital.

Police arrested and detained the three Navy officers at a road checkpoint last Wednesday after weapons including guns were found in their vehicle. The search also revealed security cards of the Students Network.

Kan said after the incident, all officers were ordered to return to their office to prevent further misunderstanding or possible conflicts at the demonstration. Referring to the security guard's cards, the general said it was necessary for the men to have them to facilitate their investigation at rally sites. The vehicle and weapons were officially registered for use on the mission, he said.

There were rumours about Cambodians called in by the Dubai bad guy. If that proves to be true he may very well have signed his death sentence. And if it really would be ten vans, then it would mean dozens of Cambodians. The more chance to catch a few. As the police allegiance lies elsewhere, it should be the task of the army.

Perhaps the caretaker Defence Minister will decide to ask for the military's assistance, in catching these alleged agents-provocateurs, or perhaps her brother will think it un-necessary or unhelpful, and Skype her to instruct advise against tasking them with catching the MiBs ?

Or maybe she still has confidence in the BiBs ?

Meanwhile at least it would help TAT boost the tourist-numbers a little bit ! rolleyes.gif

And some people believe this guy? Oh wow.. regarding training in throwing hand grenades, there are in the norm two methods used, place arm behind back and rotate arm in a forward moving direction, with eyes facing your intended target and hurl grenade releasing at just before the jucture of the arm meeting in line with the head, or two, pull the pin and throw the bloody thing... Mr Navy maybe better off training his men in depth charges instead of being an expert on the use of hand grenades... Oh and can we get a source of were the rumours came from? We are all gagging for this source!!

Just let your Thai wife/family/friends/bargirls browse facebook. Or do it yourself if you can read Thai.

Here we go with the Cambodian thing again.....

Im not buying this story at all this is back to the old no ones responsible its not Thais hurting Thais ohhh no of course not. Rubbish this is clearly just propaganda again to lay blame.

How is this helping to calm things ? Another Irresponsible idot

Why not? The link between Thaksin and Cambodians has been proven time and time again. Of course, you can always choose to ignore facts and play stupid like many red shirt supporters do. It's a well know fact that Cambodians smuggled considerable number of arms and weapons to North/Northeast of Thailand. Jakrob Pienkar can enlighten more on that one, a red shirt leader.

It is entirely plausible that the guy was actually Cambodian. After CCTV footage, no one came forward. No family? No friends?

Because im not Thai and I dont buy into the BS its always someone elses fault. Actually its a well known fact that Thais smuggle stuff into Thailand all the time thats for sure if you can prove what you claim then link it, not just gossip and rumour but facts. Until then ill ignore it, weapons are one thing but people are another not one has ever been caught and if they were and indeed Cambodian it would likely set off an international uproar and incident, i havnt seen it so kindly oblige or dont waste our time with market stories.

He says "ten" vans filled with Camobians - A Naval officer claims that he saw them cross the land border in the vans. Let's say a typical van holds 12 or more people. That's 120 Cambodians crossing the border into Thailand to head for Bangkok to disrupt the protests and/or the government of Thailand. This seems like an act of war that the Thai naval officer witnessed.

Then later the same Thai naval officer claims expertise in examining the photos of the grenade thrower and can even identify the type of throw and where he received his throwing training. My lord, put this Thai naval officer in charge of all investigations at once. He is uncanny from his naval post identifying 10 land vans crossing with Cambodians, not Thais who appear Cambodian. The naval office then examined the photos and was able to pinpoint the throwing technique and where the thrower received his training.

This story is mind boggling. How could the supreme commander of Thai military force overlook this naval officer and not put him in charge of all investigations of national security in Thailand?

Ummmm.

Why is the navy at a land border?

Which law tells that the Navy is not allowed to leave the waters?

If the thai navy are so sure about 10 vans entering via the eastern seaboard why the heck didnt the army or the navy do anything then ? it is supposed to be the job of the armed forces to patrol and keep the sovereign nation safe as much as the police ..no scratch that its the armed forces job period.

this is ridiculous if the armed forces had knowledge then they should have done something immediately, how do they know this in such accurate detail ? what the heck are navy seals doing in a drug sting operation ?

As for throwing the grenade and training etc ? what utter rubbish the guy is talking out the back of his neck.

"I would like to ask what wrong the protesters have done. They have done nothing wrong nor acted violently."

sounds like some TV members here they have done nothing wrong ohh no of course... yeesh

Try telling us why the Navy are complicit and active in human trafficking while we are at it with another nations mafia....... proven fact. The navy is bought and sold just like all the rest and its clear whos bought this one.

Im not buying this story at all this is back to the old no ones responsible its not Thais hurting Thais ohhh no of course not. Rubbish this is clearly just propaganda again to lay blame.

I have yet to see an immigration checkpoint manned by the Navy or RTA. Where in the article was there any suggestion that this was an illegal entry, either cross country or by sea, which come under the remit of the military? What right does the military have to stop or otherwise hinder visitors who have legally entered the country?

Are you not aware that drug abuse and trafficking is a major problem for the military, and that military police, with assistance from other branches, actively investigate and prosecute this problem?

Why do you keep throwing casual lies and strawman argument in your posts?

mate, you are so full of it and have no idea of what you are saying. You pull the pin, check to make sure that there is nothing stopping the handle from releasing, throw the grenade as you would a ball,( this round arm throw is bullshit), watch where it is going to land(to a count of 3 secs so that you klnow where it is) then get out of the line of the blast. This is how the army is trained to throw grenades and I threw several, your description is that far wrong its not funny(but you are).

The navy is just trying to draw attention away from it's thugs working for the anti government protesters. They were caught red handed by the police with id's and guns. Could they be the men in black?

Even if the allegation of being guards of the Student movement is true, they where there only to protect them!

They are not the men in black but for sure, you are one of them friend!
