PM Yingluck Shinawatra arrives at the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, 22 January 2014

BANGKOK: -- Anti-government protesters are besieging the headquarters of the Royal Thai Police to prevent governmental officials from working there.

The protesters led by Student and People′s Network for the Reform of Thailand (SRT) marched from their rally site on Ratchaprasong Intersection to the headquarters when they heard reports that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was due to arrive at the building for meeting with top police officers.

The protest took place in spite of the enactment of State of Emergency over Bangkok, which in principle bans political gathering in the capital city.

Mr. Nitithorn Lamluea, a leader of SRT, said the protesters′ objective is not the occupation of any building, but to capture leaders of the government, such as Ms. Yingluck and Pol.Gen. Adul Saengsingkaew, chief of the Thai police.

Rallying in front of the headquarters, the protesters also used equipment to remove the sign of the Royal Thai Police from the wall. Some protesters later spray-painted the abbreviation of their group name on the vandalised wall.

Mr. Nitithorn said he had instructed the protesters to remove the sign since the police no longer represents the nation.

"They are not people′s police. They are police who serve tyranny. They are enemy of the people, and enemy of the country," Mr. Nitithorn said.

A separate group of protesters also marched to the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence on Chaeng Wattana Road, where Ms. Yingluck was attending a meeting with the newly formed Center for Maintenance of Peace and Order (CMPO) following the enactment of the State of Emergency over Bangkok last night.

Ms. Yingluck refused to talk to the press as she arrived at the Office.

Other top officials such as Deputy Prime Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul and Minister of Finance Kittirat Na Narong also attended the meeting. Security was tight around the meeting venue.

Officials said Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung, who has been assigned command of CMPO′s operational arms, would address a press conference later in the afternoon about scopes and powers CMPO wields under the emergency decree.

STR-led protesters removed Royal Thai Police sign

BANGKOK: -- Protesters led by the Students and People Network for Thailand removed the Royal Thai Police's sign in front of the national police headquarters Wednesday.

They instead painted the STR sign at the Royal Thai Police sign.

They arrived at the Royal Thai Police headquarters at10:-0 am and demanded the national police chief, Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew, to report to the STR leaders.

They initially removed the words "national" from the sign at 10:50am, saying the police did not serve the people. At 11 am, they removed the entire police sign and painted the STR over the sign.

Openly admitting to planning to kidnap the prime minister and chief of police, and they still don't get arrested. TIT.

Adds a new dimension to ' bodyguard ' or ' close protection ' more like ' close attention '.

I wonder how many students are being forced to get involved in this thing, my information from some youngsters are, that they have been are told, if they don’t join they will be beaten up.

I really don't think anyone understands what the SOE is, and that's why you get ridiculous headlines suggesting that the protesters are "ignoring" the SOE. There's nothing to ignore. The SOE is a list of additional powers which CMPO may use in order to maintain some semblance of peace. In the west, it would be stricken down by the Courts as impermissibly vague and unconstitutional.

So far, the SOE powers have been used for nothing more than the establishment of traffic checkpoints (SOE permits random vehicular and personal searches) leading into protest areas. Anyone who is for reducing the chance of violence I think would support that use of the SOE.

However, with a nutcase like Chalerm in control (I don't know how someone who usurped police powers to demolish competitor businesses is allowed to hold government office anyway), this could really be dangerous to a country which is trying to preserve its international reputation as a safe tourist destination.

Yesterday Chalerm said no force would be used but they didn't have any policies established.

Quite unusual, this very decisive government not to have any policies. giggle.gif

However, all joking apart it seems the emergency decree was decided on without any thought as to implementation. A typical Thai ' all right on the night ' approach.

Compare it with Suthep's well thought out, multi-step plan of action for "change" that he has put before the people. 555

The guy on the left looks like he's buttoning up his shirt ... or trying to gain some self-confidence.

The guy on the left looks worried that he's going to get in trouble with her for taking her to do her job instead of shopping.

Ah, Mr. Nitithorn Lamluea aka Mr. Nitithorn Lamlua seems to be moving up in the world.

First he was Kasit's lawyer trying to get Kasit off charges (successfully it seems, but hey, he's PAD and was abhisits Foreign Minister so what's the problem) relating to the occupation of Suvarnabhumi Airport

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2009/07/14/politics/politics_30107394.php

and then he was advisor to the students at their siege of government house in October

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/politics/Urupong-protest-led-by-students-not-politicians-30217511.html

and now he is the leader of the Network of Students and People for Thailand's Reform?

Gets around doesn't he? - you would have thought he'd be rushed off his feet keeping the PAD protesters from 2008 out of jail. Oh, silly me.

Why a picture of Yingluck getting out of a van instead of a picture of the sign?

A Third Person "Selfie" foto taken for YL so she can Verify her Butt does not look too Big in that outfit.

Guy at back of th van was "Verifying" for himself

Yes, many redshirt students are forced to fight against the peaceful demonstrators, I think it's disgusting..
