Someone asked me this question and I don't have an answer. Can anyone help?

"I currently have a one year multiple O visa (based on marriage to a Thai) that was issued in the UK last October. My 90 days are up this coming Monday and I was wondering whether I can get a 60 day extension rather than having to go to Laos. Do you know whether this is possible? If this is possible, would it effect the validity of my current multiple O which is good until October 2014?"
Since a 2 or 3 entry tourist visa can be extended without canceling any entries that are left, it seems logical that the same would go for this situation. The problem is it's not exactly the same thing.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
