How do you maintain your coffee machine (fully automatic) ?

Each one who operates a fully automatic coffee machine should know it has to be cleaned and decalcified in certain cycles otherwise repairs are necessary faster.

Unfortunately in Thailand it seems to be not so easy to buy cleaning tablets and if you get that, these are not inexpensive.

For my Fagor machine they offered 2 tabs for THB 500.- (incl. shipping from BKK).

Yes 2 tabs not 2 packs w00t.gif

How do you solve this problem ?

Lol. Had the same issue... Mix a little white vinegar in the tank of water, or very well strained lemon juice. I owned a few Saeco machines that say in the manual not to, but I guarantee their tabs are no less corrosive. ;-)

Or, use deionized water and never need it. Tastes better too.

DO NOT try baking soda on a fully auto! Not sure about denture tabs... the other chemicals and gasses migh affect the rubber seals and impellers.

Good to know - the advices to use baking soda, deture tabs etc. are interesting but I agree with that you could destroy more than to maintain, what belongs to the material of the machine.

Sodium bicarbonat=baking soda seems to be good for clean rubber (O-rings) etc. but I am not sure about carbon dioxid=baking powder because it can include much more ingredients like starch etc.

The best is only use cleaning tabs for coffee machines.

Hello,

Can you show me the coffee machines models that you have ?

I feel like to try a good one but as much automatic as possible as I even get bored with Nespresso machine cleaning and refill.

I don't want to do anything when the maid is not here so I want the machine to be linked to water, etc...

Do you have a good one ?

Thanks.

Start a new thread for more eyes and input. I prefer Saeco as the others use the same mechanism but cost much more. With it, I can program the exact extract, grind, etc. that I like.

Baking powder (not soda) also has aluminum, which is nice for plugging holes and leaks in the tubes, but hard on impellers and bad for your brain ;-)

Also of note, readjng the ingredients of the tabs and powders, do you notice it is the same chemistry as citrus and/or vinegar in powdered form for most brands?

Example ingredients of cleaning tabs for coffee machines :

5-15% phosphates

15-30% bleach based on oxygen

sodium carbonate

Again :

Not descaler but cleaning tabs

Descaler is something completely else and is made on acid-base like you described.

(citric acid + maleic acid)

Great point, bagsida, especially clarifying the terminology. 'cleaning' an automatic, to me, means descaling, as only the removeable mechanics need to be cleaned like one would a regular pot. Those mechanics are not so happy with heavy bleach - soap and water, diswasher safe.

Such fully automatic coffee machines need both :

Cleaning for remove coffee oil etc. (more frequently)

and

Descaling for remove the limestone (how often is depending from your machine settings how hard the water is)

All together depends on how many times you use the machine.

The general cleaning program after turn on / off has nothing to do with these procedures. That cleaning process only spoils water through the brewing unit etc.

One more advice :

Some fully automatic coffee / espresso machine users and coffee lovers swear by it to use mineral water.

O.k.- may be the coffee tastes better using mineral water like "Perrier", but they should know the minerals in that water are not the best for these machines !

go to

www.espressofriend.com

then click on cleaning products

they have very nice coffee also

Thx - that was the best advice "Urnex Cafiza" Cleaning Tabs for coffee machines 100 pcs. THB 1,250.-

attachicon.gifUrnex-Cafiza-CleaningTabs.jpg

but they are still approx. 4-times more expensive than in Germany.

http://www.amazon.com/Urnex-Espresso-Machine-Cleaning-Tablets/dp/B002G40VNO

in US costs about 800 baht plus shipping but you get 200 tablets. you may try ordering them from outside thailand r perhaps from an asean country.

Correct but shipping fees could cost you more than the tabs sad.png

Min. shipping fee in this Amazon shop to Thailand is US$ 13.99 = complete THB 1,250.-

In this Amazon shop is no advice for these kinds of goods + I am sure a declaration etc. for customs will be necessary + have to pay import duty + 7% VAT.

At the end in this way probably you`ll have to pay more than order in BKK or in worst case the tabs never will arrive at your place sad.png

Order from somewhere else than Thailand agree - shipping don´t agree - you need someone who bring it with him to Thailand.

Would you buy 1 pack with 10 tabs for THB 450.- if you could buy it easily in Thailand without have to order in BKK etc. ?

are you against using sterodent tablets,i have been using them for over 4yrs.as I found it impossible to find descaler tabs or powder, they clean the machine very well but you must put the water in first.they recommend cleaning teeth with them gets rid of coffee and tea stains.

For what and how are you using these sterodent tabs exactly ?

For descaling ?

Fill the watertank with water and then add the tabs, powder or descaler liquid.

This is the common way for use descaler.

The cleaning tabs you have to put in there where you can fill in ground coffee - how to fill in water therewhistling.gif

BTW :

Which kind of coffee machine do you use ? Is it a fully automatic model ?

I think we are talking about completely different coffee styles.

This thread is about cleaning etc. of fully automatic coffee / espresso machines .

For these machines you could use ground coffee too, but usually you should use coffee beans.

While we are at it, what do you reckon is a good coffee machine with grinder on top? At work , we had 2 Siemens and even if it is German technology, they were both often broken.

Here in Thailandd they are at around 50,000 baht. What about Bon Cafe and Severin coffee machine with incorporated grinder? Are they any good?

I would never buy an expensive coffee machine here in Thailand, they might have a warrenty for 12months but try and find a good service center that can fix it.then after the warrenty runs out then it will cost you.

got an Electrolux drip machine its only 18months been repaired twice and its fked, now I pour in the boiling water myself only difference is you get a hotter cup of coffee. 2,000bht that's enough.

I didn´t know a filter machine is called "drip" wink.png

But sorry, it seems that your are off topic, because here it´s about Fully Automatic Coffee Machines and this is something completely else than a filter machine which are much more sensitive as filter machines.

Your coffee making solution is something between 1. and 4. above.

If it doesn't have a self cleaning mode you can run coffee machine detergent through it.

LFC ...up the reds!!!

Ooops - something new - what is "coffee machine detergent" ?

Liquid Clean Express (liquid detergent)

This is only for espresso machines like that one

post-47256-0-57943000-1390925900.jpeg

I just called in Germany and got that info from a German dealer.

It is impossible to use it for clean a fully automatic coffee machine.

BTW:

1 liter Liquid Clean Express is THB 700.- (Coffee-Coffee Hua Hin)
