Bangkok Poll says country needs economic reform too

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Poll says the majority of economists wanted to see economic reform in the country.
The poll result was revealed by the research centre at Bangkok University, or Bangkok Poll, on its survey of the Thai economy and national reform.

60 economists at 32 leading organizations were interviewed between Jan 8 and 17.

The poll showed that four out of every five economists polled shared the common view that economic reform is essential, not just political reform. Many also warned Thailand could face a severe recession or even bankruptcy in 10 years.

As many as 83.4% of economists said economic reform is needed, only 8.3% disagreed, and the remaining 8.3% were unsure.

Asked about the urgent need in economic reforms, 79.3% of them said suppression of corruption and enhancement of fair and transparent competition is most urgent task, while 51.3% pointed to fiscal policy, particularly matters of fiscal sustainability and the populist policies.

49% of economists wanted reform to include income distribution.

The poll also revealed that 21% agreed the country’s image will improve and corruption will disappear, while 15% said more justice and equality in Thai society will be seen, and 13% said more political stability will be seen.

Sory soi41 I didn't see any mention of the antigovernment and anti corruption protests or Suthep in that entire article, looks like misdirection to me. Sounds more like they believe that Thaksinomics are an economic disaster that threatens to bankrupt Thailand and that economic reforms are a priority and a more socialist distribution of wealth should be a goal.

Ah yes. Maybe lets liberalise the banks, construction, and food markets?

I think these are ripe for for foreign competition and would increase efficiency, reduce corruption and be good for the thai consumer.

Bangkok bank and kasikorn just loved that.

Bangkok Poll says.....and then.....i read... 60 economists.

"country’s image will improve....."; Yingluck is working on that and has great international exposure

".....and corruption will disappear....."; that will take some decades.........

"......more justice and equality in Thai society......."; that will take some decades.......

And this impressing Poll talk only about the few years Yingluck has been in charge or dating back to Abhisit's miserable period of being captain of the ship? Not putting a penny in improving the rotten State Railway infrastructure (Yingluck took action), spending lots fighting over a temple which is Khmer.

Seems like common sense to me but then again common sense is rarely common.
