I went to the company that arranges visa appointments for the Thai embassy here in Delhi 2 days ago. Hoping to easily apply for a double entry visa.

They were giving me a hard time because i did not have proof of outward flight. Even though i had added a pretty extensive travel plan with dates. Reservation for hotel on arrival in Thailand, proof of enough funds, etc etc. The travel plans even countained thw dates when i would leave the country the first time, and when i would leave the second time. Which is crazy and a little made up ofcourse, since i dont want my travels to be set in atone. I am a human being, not a robot :P

Anyway, my argument was that i would leave by bus and didnt have a ticket for that yet.

They told my i could apply for the visa at that moment, but they could not guarantee that the thai embassy would grant it "in this state". With no refunds of money (around 70 dollar) if denied. So i went away without applying for it, trying to think of the best strategy. I am from the Netherlands by the way. Not Indian. And i look pretty respectable if i may say so myself.

Anyway, is the company (VFS) just exaggerating, and will it most likely be granted? Or am i better of trying it a different way? I am for example willing to buy a refundable air ticket to Cambodia which i can cancel later. Does anyone know an airline where i can do this? Or have any other kind of advice i can try for maximum change of succes?

You have the option of going to Laos and apply there for a double entry visa. You could come on a visa exempt entry to Thailand. which by air gives you 30 days and then go to Laos and apply there for a double entry visa.

For a refundable ticket, check with an agent or check a few airlines online if you have a credit card. Another option is to get a very cheap ticket with an airline as airasia.

But, if you do try to come without a visa and get a "visa exempt" entry, the airline might not let you board your flight without a ticket exiting Thailand within 30 days!

You could buy a cheap ticket from say Hat Yai to KL and write it off as another option, the refundable ones are expensive.

Sounds like you're between a rock and a hard place. Good luck!

I've no recent experience of Delhi, but when I applied from VFS in Bangalore (UK passport, Chennai consulate) shortly after they brought in the rules requiring tickets out, the VFS chap called the consul whilst I was waiting and got confirmation that a double tourist visa would be issued. A year or so later, the same call netted an emphatic no!

Knowing our Indian friends' love of rules and regulations, I'd say you have small to no chance of getting a double without flights booked for both entries sad.png You could try calling the consulate if you can find a number, otherwise stick to a single.

By the way, you are unlikely get on the flight at Delhi International with no visa and no onward ticket (unless you're really good at sweet talking Indian officials), they're sticklers for that too sad.png

It is the rules they have and I am certain that they will deny the visa application.

I suggest you check one of the low cost carriers (Air Asia) and purchase a ticket to any of the nearby countries. If you purchase your ticket in advance you can often find them so cheap that you can trash it an loose very little money.

whistling.gif All applications for visas have a fee associated with that visa,

Normally they will not refund that fee if your visa application is refused.

It is considered more like a fee for services rendered, and therefore non refundable.

Now, all consulates or embassies have the right to "request further information as required and as they see fit to ask for".

If you question them, that will be their justification for asking for things like seeing tickets or travel itineraries.

It will be:

  • For clarification or
  • For your protection.

That is the standard reply.

I'm wondering if I should book a flight out of Thailand for the period that will be covered by the visa I'm going to apply for.

In the past I've gotten single-entry tourist visas at Vientiane without having an upcoming flight out of Thailand, and I was never questioned about this.

Now I plan to go to Savannakhet & apply for a double-entry tourist visa (Possible complication: I got a red-stamp warning when I was given my last visa at Vientiane).

Given that I'm going for a double-entry, plus my Vientiane red stamp, would having a flight ticket be worth it?

A ticket out is not normally asked for at any nearby embassy and consulate.

Some type of proof you have funds coming into Thailand from abroad would do more good than a ticket out of the country.

I've been withdrawing money from my US bank account, via ATMs here in Thailand. The withdrawals are in baht. I could certainly show bank statements proving this.
