Pattaya becomes refuge from ‘Bangkok Shutdown’

PATTAYA:--With Bangkok under siege from anti-government protestors, Pattaya is seeing a tourist resurgence, as Thais and foreigners flee the capital for the Eastern Seaboard.

Dongtan Beach vendor Saleewan Boonchuay, 53, said the weeks leading up to the Jan. 13 “shutdown” of major intersections in Bangkok were desperately quiet.

Last week Pattaya news reported "Pattaya tourist levels have dropped 80 percent from last year".

This week Pattaya news tells us the place is packed.

Are there any newspapers in Thailand that do not have conflicting reports on a regular basis

Why can't they drive to Hua Hin instead, more space there, less traffic than in Pattaya.

Pattaya has been packed out on weekends since the floods hit Bangkok. Once they moved down to Pattaya and districts this way, a lot of them purchased property here and now come on weekends. You only have to look at the traffic pouring out of Bangkok heading to Pattaya on Friday afternoons and visa versa on Sunday afternoons. Don't blame them.
