zydeco
European and Americans governments need to shut their yap. The more they talk, the worse they make the situation. Well... they could go to Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Laos, Philippines or Singapore (with the last being the only expensive route).... Have at it again, Gunga Din! Popular Post FangFerang
European and Americans governments need to shut their yap. The more they talk, the worse they make the situation. The rest of the world is under no obligation to refashion itself in the direct image of DC, London, Brussels, Berlin, Paris, or anywhere else. Easy to say, and I agree with you. And hard to make effective as a defense beyond words. The world is interconnected financially. What do you think would happen if foreign investors pulled all their money out of Thai bonds and futures, out of speculation on the Baht and Thai securities...? They could sink Thailand without ever using a gun...I think that is unfair, but that is the reality both opposing sides face here, and the only reason they are being moderately civil. This is the same reason many speculate that the world is becoming more corporate than political. I agree with that sad speculation. Ok, Thais want to sell the world commodities, and allow the Thai stock market access to the profits from abroad...but you cannot shut that door once you open it. The door was opened by Thais. Powerful Thais who are now realizing that the rest of the world does not care if they are amart. Foreign power players say: screw you. We will put our money somewhere else. And that will be your downfall. His Majesty calmly and lovingly suggested a sufficiency economy, but too many powerful Thais were too hypnotized by gold and the power it bestows to even want to understand. That is part of this problem. The media is just a mouthpiece for it. In a global economy, and which is the economy Thailand is involved with now, investors have more clout than governments in many cases. This is why many who felt invincible are treading cautiously. They loved the money, and are now realizing the profit had other liabilities from which they cannot extricate themselves by waving flags, blowing whistles and stomping their feet....welcome to uncontrolled capitalism, and all of its ramifications. Even to the point of supporting corrupt governments because they follow and rape the rules. Financially, the rest of the world is not afraid of Thailand. If she wants to play her part her own way, that is fine, but she cannot make deals and break them without serious repercussions. Sure, this is Thailand, but the rest of the world has invested in it.....and the rest of the world can destroy her by simply...by exiting the situation. You did this to yourselves, and you know it. It is my hope you find a unique way to balance power, and it has never been achieved before. You have an opportunity to lead, not follow. By the name of the Lord Buddha and His Servant, lead! Make representative democracy balanced, because no one else has ever managed it. Shame those who insult Thailand and her gentle people. But no one hears this. Too many are too busy telling their opponents they have no face. Thai people deserve better than this.

englishoak
Usual rhetoric from such a body, would you rather they said f it get in the ring and have a dust up ? International interest both financial and trade would rather things became stable, not just the EU but all with a connection with Thailand. Japan has said the same as has the US and a number of others, this is not really any surprise or unwarranted.
pipkins
Can't help feeling this would be more welcome if she had said they Were Supporting the People's Council in their quest for a pure regime. Suthep has been courting these people and far from asking them to shut up and keep out even stated today that he is writing to gaaasp Obama ooooooooooooh. No doubt Obama will get the same insults and jibes if he too mentions sorting things out "Inclusively - (that means including everybody even if they are poor farmer who smell of som tam and look ukky and dark and scary in Siam Paragon when you are buying your skin whitener in Boots every saturday) " and Democratically. Sorry don't have enough time this year to explain democratically to the few on here who are against it. Well said, however, this has been on the cards for over a year (started with Pitak Siam and they just re-grouped under Suthep) and Yingluck could have done with the earlier..... So 7/10 for that. Yingluk fights off this coup without killing too many and she is Times world person of the year this year!!!! She is doing that well!!!

NHT
What Thailand dont need is another bla bla advice. What Thailand doesn't need, is - ANYONE! They do so good without - ANYONE! Fine! Remembered. Come to us again, and beg again, you oh so glorious, proud, smart, intelligent, brave, Buddha loving, caring, blatant land! We will remember who you are! Bad news; the wrong country built the great wall. Good news, you have enough slaves, you can still build your own wall. Inwardly, you did already, all you need is the "symbolically", still, and then you're complete - HOME ALONE! la-la-lala-la

noitom
She , like all bureaucrats has a funded pay check to justify. So she puts up another pin on her bulletin board so anyone walking by will see she has a lot of little colored pins on the board and she can now add the Thailand pin with small flag. Also the pile of busy work folders on the corner of her nice plush taxpayer funded office will have a Thailand folder now. Next we hear from Ms. Ashton will be that she's jetting off in first class to Bangkok to have meetings with those in conflict such as Mr. Suthep and Ms. Yingluck. EU taxpayers will be footing the bill for every minute of Ms. Ashton's time, her benefits, and her expenses which are very first class.
