Sweet Almonds from the North

Featured Replies

Hello,

does anyone know how these almonds are produced? They taste slightly sweet and some shops sell them as chocolate-flavoured. They are in their shells, but most of them can be extracted with your hands as the shell is rather brittle. The kernel inside shows no sign of being cooked/treated, except for the odd one which has traces of a sugar-salty crust (inside the shell). The taste is more like a good chocolate cake and there is noticable salt.

You can buy them in Warorot Market in Chiang Mai and in some "Chinese" Villages in the north. They are absolutely addictive and I'm on my last package.

My own test runs with soaking almonds in cocoa and then roasting them produced nothing like this.

Thanks for any hint,

zbaba
