Can't wait till tomorrow, not seen a WSBK race live since early 90's.

Off to Sepang at about 8am.

Hoho hope you got a good view of that 1st lap wow!

Posted (edited)

Had a great day out at Sepang. Took a few photos but nothing professional, will try to get them on here tomorrow.

The racing was great, shame Loris Baz took out T.S. at turn one, he is a bit of a loose cannon and I'm sure he isn't too popular in the padock at the moment.

The 2 x WSBK races were dominated by Aprilia, even Toni Elias was right up there. It was obvious that the track suits the RSV4 more than the others.

There wasn'y many people at the event though, after being used to MotoGP sized crowds, the stands were nowhere near half full. Given an estimation I would say that the crowd was between 10,000 to 15,000 only. I hope that this doesn't have an influence on next year as I'm sure it was a loss financially speaking.

The racing was great though, the superbikes really motor down the straights and the seating is very close to the track side, which made it great entertainment.

Corti's MV Augusta burst into flames in front of us, this led to the red flag in race 2 as oil had been left on the track. The short race 2 became a bit a prossesion with Melandri pipping Guintolli at the line.

Now i know why Mrs Melandri isn't at the tracks anymore, Marco dedicated the race to her and her "belly", which I can only presume means she is pregnant.

WSSP was a great race, there was a big crash at the same corner where Simoncelli lost his life. I was happy to see all 3 of the riders get up and walk away. Good battle to the flag.

There were no woes getting to and from the track as all the LCCT traffic has now been diverted to KLIA2 along with Air Asia and the other budget airlines, plus the small attendance at the track meant that there was no traffic jams or standing ques at all.

I got the express train to KLIA2 and then the shuttle bus from there to the track. There was only 4 of us on the bus to the track at about 9.30 am (15 minute intervals).

Drank far to many beers, I blamed the beer girls flirting around distributing bags filled with ice and 6 cans of beer. Hic. I guess if my wife had been with me I would have had no chance to get involved with this and would have not had so many. Plus my 6 year old would have been with us also.

Nice day out, took my mind away from the usual stress associated with work and such like.

Next round is in 2 weeks in Italy.

Soihok...was thinking of you yesterday & figured

it was great live.

Both races were very good the 2nd final laps especially

Yeah pity about the 1st race mishap felt sorry for Sykes

Saw Corti's flames too! ;)

Agree those Aprilia's were perking yesterday

That is one thing about WSB getting to see Kawasaki

Suzuki,& Aprilia

I read Aprilia does a lot of testing there so has more data than others?

Don't know of true but they were running very well yesterday

Posted

Yeap, the Aprilia's were dominant.

No photos of the racing as I don't posess the equipment required to get the shots.

A couple of photos inside the main grandstand to give you an idea of how empty is was. I hope it is not detrimental to hosting the Championship next year.

Nice shots ;)

So it looks like they let everyone on the track for a lap?

Also looks like Kawasaki & Ducati are popular there same as here

Posted (edited)

Yes there was a massive Kawasaki track parade. The Ducati riders had a police escort along the highway (they overtook the bus I was on sad.png )

Good exciting qualifying sessions today at Catalunya

Coincidentally Alex Marquez got his 1st pole & M Marquez lost his 1st this year

after a crash in Qual

Dani on pole is cool !

Rabat smoked everyone for Moto2

Looks to be some good racing tomorrow

I've taken my in-laws away to Kanchanaburi for the weekend.. Didn't even see Q…

They don't know we'll be leaving very soon to get to Bkk for MGP!

Sent from a telephone, which make and model is no concern of yours….

Dani did look on it didn't he. I heard Honda upped his offer from 1.5mill Euro next year (he is on 6 mill this year) maybe he's looking for a bit more still, silly season and all. But MM is there and its raining cats and dogs there overnight. Crutchlow is looking to get out of next year with Ducati

Rins broke his toe in that crash in Moto3 must be in some doubt but Alex Marquez nearly a second in front. Jack and Romano third/fourth row. Fireworks for sure.

Rabat in a world of his own.

Awesome race day

All three actually & usually I never say that about Moto2 :)

But the GP was incredible.

Wont say more in case some will watch delayed tomorrow

I agree. Moto 2 was even exciting !

Today's top brownie points earners for me were:

Miller in Moto 3 (was he sandbagging until half way round the last lap or did he just pounce on good fortune?)

Aegerter in Moto 2 (You are not supposed to hit an air-borne 600cc inline 4 race bike then carry on to score WC points....)

Dani in Moto GP (So he does have some balls after all!)

Yes I think Miller was sandbagging but took advantage when it came his way. He knew he couldn't beat Alex MQ though.

You forgot Folger's amazing bit of work to not run right over Salom, pity he couldn't restart.

It seems to me Marc saves some of his hardest stuff up for Dani, Lorenzo was working on his excuses after about 5 laps

All in all, enjoyment factor 10.

Yes Rossi showed that he is still up there, but also showed that the Yamaha is not.

Not taking anything away from Marc but I get the feeling that if it was Rossi or even Lorenzo on the other HRC bike we probably would have seen a win from someone else by now.

The Yamaha seems to eat front tyres…

Yeah that Honda is perking

I always listen to the race with earbuds or headphones

The Honda sounds almost 2 stroke like & spins up really quick.

Also their seamless gearbox is really seamless for lack of better description

The Yamaha in contrast sounds very torque driven & shifts not quite

as seamless. But the Yamaha sounds so beefy down low

quite a contrast

If you folks have not tried earbuds or headphones give them a try

the onboard camera times are awesome sound wise :)

Missed both Moto3 and Moto2 races as, I pointed out, were over at a friends place.

Imagine my dismay when the girls decided to break out the Karaoke about 2 hours from the start of the Moto GP race. I thought, not bloomin likely, and announced that we had to leave.

Then took a wrong turn in Kuala Lumpur on the drive back home (which can have the same meaning as "entering a black hole in space") and found ourselves on the way to the airport facepalm.gif.pagespeed.ce.EuN79TyYk_.gif

Anyway, managed to get back to switch on the TV during the warm up lap.

I am so happy that I managed to see that race, truely outstanding.

Happy for MM, I don't think he realised how close he was from getting wiped out by Dani on the last lap. After all, Dani has done that to his team mate before remember (the year Hayden won the title, Dani took him out as he was certain to lift the title in that race, only to score a DNF). He was seething.

Great race from the Doctor, really ace to see him pushing MM all the way now after a reasonably slow start to the year.

I know its early, but I can't see how MM can fail be retain the championship - unless he gets hurt (on no, there I've gone and said it).

Off topic, but confirmation of a new job in Singapore at the end of September means I probably won't get to Sepang for the races in October.

Yes great race but I think MM knew for sure as I think MM slacked gas right there on purpose as he was going wide

& Dani would have gone thru

I looked at that replay quite a few times & it was not like they had dropped into the turn after a straight.

MM had been pressured on the last few turns.

See here at 19:28 the replay

A good race for sure, Dani on form but clever of Marc to slow and hold the tight line on the last bend.

Well done Vale glad to see that kind of form hope he keeps it up.

Find it hard to believe that he rode better because of 1 chain link less to shorten the bike.blink.png

Yes the once a year Saturday race. I will be in the air at midnight so miss qualifying driving to the airport but will watch races live in Aus tomorrow night.

My annual pilgrimage this year includes the Ausssie Superbikes on Sunday (/nice timing) at Queensland Raceway also known as the 2 mile paperclip

think the usual suspects would like to see the now apparently quite muscly Jorge do more

Congrats to a. Espargaro on getting pole, but as it was all a bit upside down I think the race will be a different prospect.

Surprised to see Vale in 12th on the grid, but he has done wonders before, as long as he doesn't get held up too much at the start.

Can MM do it again,,,,,,,you won't like to put money on him not winning lets put it that way.

I am hoping see Bradley Smith on the podium.

Yes due to rain none really got a hot lap in & then it got worse

But it will make for a interesting 1st lap. I hope that Jorge & Rossi etc

can move thru on the charge to turn 1 because we dont want Marc

running right off. That wouldn't be fun wink.png

But with guys like Cal, Dovi,Bradl etc all in front grid it might be a traffic problem

Today we have no social commitments so I am guaranteed to see all the races, unless my boss has other ideas about watching Hi-5 or Mickey Mouse.

My boss is 6 by the way.

Well MM#93 did it again, there is just no stopping him is there.

A really strange race involving swapping bikes (I liked the way MM sprung off one bike onto another without touching the ground).

Very happy to see Dovi put a Ducati on the podium.
