Hi,

We have 30 days expiring Feb 6th and need extention to Feb. 13th when we fly out .From our research could you please tell us the best option??? hoping to hear from someone who has done one of these options

We are on Koh Tao and thinking either to do a visa run to penang but we really don't want to spend a day in mini vans to malaysia.

Could we take the train from Chumpon? or Surat Thani? to Penang? and then just turn around and come back into Thailand? how much is this train? how long is the train ride?

orrr could we just pay the 500 bhat a day fine at the airport when we leave? or is this frowned upon?

We are going up to Chang Mai Feb. 4 ish and understand we could just go to the immigration office and it costs around 2000 baht??? is this correct?

or should we do a visa run from Chang Mai to Laos???

Any help would be much appreciated

thank you!!!

If you are on Koh Tao, go to Nathon in Samui and take the bus to Hat Ya, leaves early am. Get a Taxi to the border in Hat Yai, go across and come back in and get a 30 day visa exempt entry. shop at the duty free. There is no charge for the Malaysian entry and only one night in Hat Yai. I used to stay at the King Hotel and it was close to the market and restaurant area. No need to go to Chaing Mai unless you just want to.

If you already plan to be in chiang mai why not just come up to chiang rai for a day or two and from there it's only about an hour to mae sai on Burma border...for 500 baht you can leave Thailand, enter Burma, return Thailand with 30 days....about as easy and inexpensive as it gets....takes less than 15 minutes.....plus a visit to CR and mae sai can be very interesting and pleasant.

Thanks Everyone!!

but we HATE hot long mini bus rides lol We are spending a week in Chiang Mai anyways and will just pay the 1900 baht at the immigration office

Thanks for the help!!!

From Chiangmai to Chiangrai is a nice cool comfortable ride in a vip bus for about 2 hours. I think it is impossible to work up a sweat on that.

Chiangmai to Chiang rai is not a visa run. how is that even relevant???

Most people come to chiang rai from Chiangmai in comfort and then take a local airconditioned bus or taxi the 67 km to the border.

However if you are so sure that your knowledge is Thailand is greater than those who reply to you do not expect any more help from me.

You can get a 7 day extension at any open immigration office for 1900 baht.

Incorrect, You can apply for an extension at immigration. You will be charged 1,900 baht.

Your extension request will be denied and then you will be given 7 days to leave the Kingdom :)
