Suthep's plea for military help to protect protesters

Featured Replies

The protesters need to be protected from grenades and bullets. The police can not or will not do so. The army repeatedly expressed they want to protect all Thai people. S o let's hope they can move in. No coup needed to protect people. Especially as the navy commander repeated that a number of vans with Cambodians entered the Kingdom. Apparently with the aim to disrupt the protests in a violent way.

maybe the cambodians come to fill the work void created by the thais on going protests

In case you missed it, no one else has supported the Rear Admiral's allegation. NO ONE. Get it?

People engaged in criminal activity cannot expect law enforcement to aid and abet them as they engage in illegal activities. The seizure of government buildings, and the interference with voter's as those voters try to cast ballots, are illegal activities. The people who have a right to protection are the voters.

PTP style, violence and bribe...Who think that Isaan people can vote what they want, they got pressure from this Mafia...The Police heads are all reds, so only the army can stop the Taksin-regime mercenaries.

How did PT win those former democrat seats in the last election then?! You pretend that PT wins only because it buys votes, yet the Democrats own supporters switched to PT at the last election!

I see how easily Suthep manipulated the election process in the south, he snapped his fingers and registrations were blocked, snapped them again and early voting was blocked. So now how are we supposed to trust that he didn't snap his fingers in previous elections? How do we even believe that the Dems have the few seats they still hold in the South when they can snap their fingers and elections in the south are blocked???

There is a serious issue here, beyond your talking point and that's the appalling way the elections have been run, registrations not done in Suthep controlled provinces, Suthep controlled provinces closed for early voting too!

I can see he lies about the number of protestors he has, so now I wonder why he can't raise a big mob if he has all the votes he claims to have. How come he can only raise a couple of thousand protestors, yet claims to have the democratic support of tens of millions?

On a lighter note, who knitted that jumper for him? Didn't the old ladies of the revolution (French) knit under the guillotine, or was that just apocryphal?

So let me get this straight....he wants the army to protect his thugs whilst they intimidate and prevent Thai citizens from exercising their right to vote?

No wonder he's been advised to wear a bullet proof jacket.

Bullet proof jacket??

IMO this guy needs a stray jacket!!bah.gifpost-137512-0-00465200-1390789081_thumb.

Although I'm as outraged and repelled as anyone else, that Suthep wants the Army to help him kill the election and overthrow the government is not news and isn't any surprise.

Suthep is a fascist dictator tyrant.

I wonder how can a terrorist himself ask for protection from military? ? ?

Protesting using one's basic rights to do so when a gov't doesn't follow the law and is extremely corrupt to the core is not terrorism. Burning, looting, bombs, molotovs, a city under seige IS. I see you weren't here in 2010. You need some history books and some time spent on youtube. Get to work boy!

The violence we see is from red shirts time and again; the instigators and ones who provoke with violence time and again. cctv, video footage, and a nasty reputation precede their well earned reputation.

Hopefully after a few weeks in thailand, you'll recognize this very clear pattern.

Wheres the protection for the right to vote for the majority that follow neither like lapdogs ?

THelectoratechart-final.jpg

want to help then protect these peoples right to a vote

Disingenuous clown that you are. Plead with your protestors to stay away from blocking the polls and problem solved. Go to the polls yourself and apologize that your protestors intimidate voters and close polling stations.

No need then for you to get what you really want, to pull the military in with the appearance the military is supporting you.

Think all security force related issues and assignments are supervisd by the CMPO with the RTP in charge and the military assisiting the RTP at the RTP's discretion of assignments.

Don't think the military can overstep their current role without approval of the CMPO or RTP.

Security forces should be controlling protests and conflicts on All sides.

They need to be protecting all persons. Not just government supporters, protesters, or voters.

Time for them to show that they are impartial in thir enforcement.

The Police and Army do not serve and protect the legitimate government of the country , as the should do against insurrection .

There is no reason they should protect people who are trying to overthrow the government . Protestors are there at their own risk , legally they shouldn't

be their , if they get hurt or shot dead that is sad , had they stayed at home they'd have been alright . Peaceful demonstration is one thing , when it

becomes insurrection to bring down the government a crime is being committed and consequences may be severe .

Dont know if Prayuth responds to this Clown. But Obama looks like he wasn't taken in by Sutheps crap.

Looks like the mob will have to head back to the Embassy as they didn't get the message last time

The United States is deeply troubled by efforts to block polls and otherwise prevent voting in Thailand, and by the most recent acts of political violence. While we do not take sides in the political dispute and strongly support freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest, preventing citizens from voting violates their universal rights and is inconsistent with democratic values.

We reiterate our call for all sides to refrain from violence, exercise restraint, and commit to sincere dialogue to resolve political differences peacefully and democratically.

If ever there was a boy that needed to do his homework and sharpen his thinking before running his mouth it would be the boy you see in the mirror.

The military need to protect the voting booths, not boneheaded terrorists like you, Suthep.

Moonao, the military needs to protect the voters, because the police turn up to watch.

I thought watching was what Poll- watch does.

and Suthep thought the U.S would back himcheesy.gif Suthep you are a lunatic.

It is astonishing to see the lack of police control and the police unwillingness to do their duty. How can anyone or any company/business feel secure in Thailand?

The amount of businesses that are closed or "on Hold" is huge. Many multinationals like myself are out of Thailand currently doing more productive things. Many westerners I know are taking this time to visit other countries etc. Even any Thai that can afford to fly have left Thailand for the time being. The damage thats been done has has been done and the cleanup and rebuilding will take years.

I could not agree with you more.

My wife has just been laid off until further notice.

How many more will lose jobs over this.

Not even a protest anymore.

Have you visited the sites recently.

Poor turnout out if this is a peoples revolution.

The people will vote and the inevitable will happen and everyone will carry on same as before.

Corruption is accepted as a way of lifer here it wont change.

Ever lent a Thai money and tried to get it back.

The only people pissed off will be the ones losing as they will have to try again

to get a slice of the action.

We can all comment and fall out with each other as much as we want.

Reality is WE WONT CHANGE JACK SHIT.

My partner is now out of work along with 12 of her friends.

This is someone who would have voted for the democrats, but now not a chance in the world.

Thias will do what they do best work it out there way

You can just imagine what Sutheps phone calls must be like these days......."But you promised me there'd be a coup, you promised, you promised......waaaaahhhhh".

It can be assumed that Suthep and his dreaming brigades will do the same on the 2nd Feb. the result will be a nullified election, with a postponement of the election. Again the caretaker government will stay ( or better has to stay). It's time to call the party off and sit together and find compromises where both sides are not losing face.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

True but the unfortunate thing is that any thing less than what Suthep is demandcing is to leave things as they are.

Sure maybe the election will be put off and the Dems enter and win it but unless the checks and balances are put into the government it will solve nothing just prolong the corruption for years.

People will forget how bad the PTP were just like they have forgotten how bad the red shirts were. Then it will be the same same next election one man and his money buying the election and the men who win it.

Thailand needs to change now to prevent the continuance of a way of governing that comes close to allowing a dictatorship to be set up in the name of democracy just as Hitler did.

"Sure maybe the election will be put off and the Dems enter and win it..."

On what do you base your thinking that the Dems have any chance of winning a general election? They have failed to do so for around a quarter of a century, even before the Thaksin era they were unable to win so please, what makes you have any reason to think that the Dems will be able to win this time?

The face will not be lost via elections. It will be lost via the judiciary. Yingluck's and Thaksin's Pheu Thai will need to be rolled over for the next model...same lawlessness, same whitewash for their criminal's including Thaksin, same incompetence, same neglect for education that has seen four ministers feeding at that trough in the two and half years that the Shinawatra dynasty have sucked and corrupted the country for all they can, same scams, same undemocratic crap.

All the same the Army should stay out, gather intelligence on the crimes that are currently being committed by the cops and the Pheu Thai government, and leave this mess where it ends up. Their roll in support of the judiciary is still further down the track.

The sensible thing is for the police to go home. They are not going to help because there is no tea money for them in this.

I am a firm believer that the military should be at all check points for the crowds and also a couple of military at each polling booth. If trouble seems imminent then a "flying squad" can be called in.

There should also be a military escort for all political leaders. Chalerm, Suthep and all. I have not mentioned Yingluck as I am assuming from her lack of appearance that she has abdicated her position to the other PTP leaders.

Lets see here, Suthep asking for protection of his mob while they are in the process of closing down, blocking of polling stations and harassing people who wish to vote.

There is a word for that that begins with a "C".

CRETIN?

No the other "C" that rhymes with Soup.

Coup doesn't rhyme with soup so I will guess cantaloupe?

Had me fooled too, thought it would be the "C" that rhymes with punt.

As the police through their inaction protect those who use guns against unarmed civilians but fail to protect the very Thai citizens who are the object of those attacks, the system has now completely broken down for all the world to see. There is clearly nothing now to stop these attacks. The police are utterly disinclined to do so. And that is the unmistakable impression of the people on the streets. The police's allegiance to Thaksin has been known for years, of course, but that allegiance is now being measured in lives lost. Not only is Suthep's life clearly in danger, but every other Thai citizen on the streets as well. The people on the streets now know that there is no protection for them. They are being left open to vigilante attacks. Thankfully, the army is not of that mind, and it seems that - more sooner than later - they will come up to the plate - not for a coup, but to protect unarmed citizens from vicious armed attacks. Where is the outrage from this administration ? Where is the outrage from Thaksin's cousin ? Does Tarit have one sentence for what happened yesterday in his list of threats ? Does anybody ? Shame engulfs this administration.

The military need to protect the voting booths, not boneheaded terrorists like you, Suthep.

Suthep cannot be compared to a terrorist.

All he is trying to do is restore real democracy to Thailand and permanently evict the Shin clan who have created their own dictatorship over the past few years, by buying votes in Isaan and the like. I watched my ex-wife being paid off after voting for PT at the last election.

Having lived here for more than eighteen years I want to see a return to free and fare elections that we had in the 90's, before Taksin bought his way to power

Never get tired repeating the same old mantra over and over again??

You might not have noticed, but this about 2014 and not about 2010!!coffee1.gif

And in 2014 Suthep and his neo-faci mob prevented Thai citizens from casing their vote, which is a constitutional right in any civilized country!

Who is Suthep representing?? The people? 440.000 Thais prevented from voting by a 2000 man strong mob!! The Dems? Wouldn't touch him today!! You might have noticed, that the more moderate amongst the Dems have been very quiet.

Suthep is representing the PAD, a ultraroyalist, nationalistic rightwing party, who according to Asian Human Rights Commission is a neo-facist party!!bah.gif

BTW. Have been here many years. But as your post clearly proves, the years you have been here doesn't always lead to insight!

Everybody talks about how corrupt the Shins are. Beside stupid leadership like the rice scheme I did never hear any evidence that the Shins gained in their empire because of Yingluck . Would be nice to get some information on that topic.

EricBerg, I hope you are equally supportive of the army being used to protect the people's right to vote in the face of violent intimidation.

Left out of the article above was the reasons why he was asking for military protection.

RE: "The rights and freedoms of the people are guaranteed under the constitution" said Suthep

He was calling for his friends, well known in the Military to protect his right to interfere with the rights of the vast majority of the citizens of Thailand to vote (their right and freedoms) guarantee under the constitution!

What a poor excuse of a human being, and his friends in the military back his stupidity!

Cheers

And you think the cowardly fugitive hiding out in Dubai who is the root cause of all the violence since 2010 is a good person ? Get real ! He and his cronies and family need to leave politics and let better people who have the country's best interests instead of their own take over.

You can just imagine what Sutheps phone calls must be like these days......."But you promised me there'd be a coup, you promised, you promised......waaaaahhhhh".

My info has long been that the Army would stand behind the Police, whose job it is to contain crowds. Instead, yesterday, the Police watched, similar to Poll-watch, whose volunteer jobs it is to watch and report.

Now, registered voters are afraid to vote next week. They don't see any support against protestors from the Police.
