Are there any Civil Engineering industry/CAD jobs for farang in Thailand?

Featured Replies

I was in the civil engineering industry for 8 years in the states, yet I can't seem to find any bites out here. Am I looking in the wrong places (mostly searching online, craigslist, JobsDB, etc.)? Is the civil engineering industry just not big on hiring foreigners?

Cheers

I think you hit it. Thailand is not interested in hiring foreign nationals unless it's part of a foreign national contract. Thailand continues to have a very protectionist approach to it labour pool. Regardless, nothing ventured nothing gained. Your endeavor will likely take more than scratching the traditional route. Good luck.

I read somewhere that civil engineering is a reserved occupation for Thais only

PM me and attach your CV. I'll take a look at it and get back to you

Unfortunate, but that makes sense. Land development, nearly everywhere, is done strictly by citizens of whatever nation the land is in. If it's illegal for a foreigner to own land in LOS, then that explains why no foreign civil engineer could find work hereunless the Thai gov subbed out some multibillion dollar corporation to do some government project.

I guess it's time for me to go back to school if I want to stay here.

I will do that Esprit.

engineer and draftsman and cad are not only thai occupations. Try cast your net a bit wider, and approach the specialist engineering manpower companies...

You will find it is a reserved occupation;

http://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand/working-thailand.php

As for finding work here, you can always do so if you have access to or create an approved Co., Ltd structure and comply with the law in respect of work permits.

Restricted to Thais only by law:

Professional civil engineering concerning design and calculation, systemization, analysis, planning, testing, construction supervision, or consulting services, excluding work

requiring specialized techniques.

If you have experience with special techniques or processes there are possibilities for work.

Contact me. Its simple work but i am looking for someone to do some CAD work for me, just part time.

Email and line addresses removed per forum rules please PM

Check your PMs, drand11 and esprit.

Don't want to hijack the OPs thread.

I am in a similar position but a Broadcast television engineer.

I am looking the same as the OP, are there not any special agencies out there like in the west?

JobsDB doesn't seem to do it. In the west the agencies headhunt you, via LinkedIn etc.

Curious.

Check out Leighton /asia, unless you are hired by an expat company in any Asian country , you wont get far walking in for a job , they are not there.

PM me also with some details. I worked for a multi-national engineering company managing the drafting section here for a few years and when they pulled out of Asia, I went to work managing a small group from there in a new company. Basically doing the same thing.

I would be happy to have a chat with you.

I think networking is the way to go here for a job, forget about applying for work online as very few positions are advertised for expats. There seems to be a greater chance of hiring expats for this sort of work in Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia than in Thailand.
