Need advice on where to get my next tourist visa

Featured Replies

Hi all, I hope you can help a newbie.....I've been reading around on the forum but can't find the answer so thought it best to post. My situation-I'm a UK citizen and have spent most of my time in Thailand over the last few years. My passport is full of stamps- a 1 year ed visa (denied last time I tried, sadly), a multiple tv from the uk, 2 double entry TVs from Vientiane, and my last tv, a single entry from Los Angeles. My passport is choc full of stamps due to all the 30 day extensions, and border runs to Malaysia (I'm based on Koh Phangan). I don't know where is best to get my next one from! I am thinking either to risk Vientiane again (last one from there was April 2013) or to try KL and get a single entry. I have only 4 clear pages left in my passport, and am thinking to "lose" it once I get the visa, them apply for a nice clean passport. Can anyone give me some advice on where I am most likely to get a visa without the dreaded red stamp? And any advice on conveniently losing the passport and applying or a new one? Any advice much appreciated :-)

Try either of the consulates in Laos, forget about KL.

Vientiane would be a good choice. Since it wouldn't be a back to back visa from them.

Reports for KL are not so good. One yesterday saying they wanted a ticket out of the country plus financial proof.

You wouldn't have to loose your passport to get a new one with just a few pages left. Most countries do not have any rules that restrict how early you can get a passport.

Try Savannaket. If you're a US citizen, don't lose your passport, just apply for a new one, $110. It takes about 10 days but you have to go to the embassy in Bangkok.

Apart from the visa, why would you want to "lose" your passport?

Just apply for a new one, no need to make false declarations to the Thai police.

Wayned -

As a "UK Citizen" he can't apply for a US passport!

Thanks all. Didn't realise I could renew the passport so easily. Looks like I'm off to Laos again ;-)

Well it isn't so easy and certainly not cheap. :D

Edit: plus a relply to the post.

The process for getting a new passport in a foreign country is actually not that difficult. I have just done it as an Aussie and am currently in Savannakhet waiting until 2pm when I can pick up my new (hopefully) double entry tourist visa.

From Koh Phangan check out whether the Yellow Bus from Rayong/Phuket will pick you up in Chumporn and bring you to Mukdahan. You might also ask around for Herman on Samui who used to organise visa trips to Khota Bharu - he seemed to be able to get all sorts of things through when I was last there some 6 years ago. Sorry I don't have contact details for him, but ask around all the usual suspects, someone will know if he is still in business.

So does getting a new passport sort out the problem of getting new tourist visa?

Immigration always performs some kind of computer work before stamping our passports at the border point. Are they able to get a history of come and go by that? I wouldn't think so if you are on different/new passport but was always wondering.

Often it solves the problem, as they only check the current passport for stamps.

Red stamp?

Hanoi has reportedly been offering triple entry tourist visas.

Red stamp is given when you reach the point that Vientiane says no more tourist visas from them.

I have only seen reports of single entry visas from Hanoi.

Getting a new passport really does. Of help, I've already had 3 but now I have a one year visa, but before, when I got my 3rd passport, at the border, the offer scanned my name and my passport numbers (yes I looked at their computer) and I could see all my in and out of Thailand with my name and my passport numbers, they questioned me on why so many passports, I just told them the truth, it was full will stamps,

So getting new passport can fail if you got a immigration with a bad mood lol

Good luck, I hope it works out for you what ever you choose

There are two posters who speak of multi or triple entry visas in Hanoi here:

Although that was back around March of 2013.

But they didn't get them because embassy wanted tickets for every entry that were for departure and return.

I personally met with that requirement in Canada, whether it was for single, double or triple entry, all of which were available in Vancouver. No bank statements, employment papers, letters of guarantee, etc, needed, though.

Likewise for a single entry via Singapore.
