Chinese new year - avoiding bad luck

my GF just sent me the following, might be useful for those with thai/chinese GF's - HISO or not wink.png (comments are hers)

here are things chinese people are not allowed to do on chinese new year because they will bring bad luck and bad things to their life throughout the year:
1. cleaning house and going to the tip - it is like you throw out luck and prosperity (dust and garbage = luck and prosperity?)
2. washing your hair or having your hair cut - 'hair' in chinese is pronounced similar to wealthy
3. speaking rude and crude words
4. having rice porridge for breakfast - it will impede you from being wealthy (don't know how are they related)
5. washing your clothes - deity of water was born on chinese new year. so washing your clothes on his birthday is regarded as insulting him.
6. wearing black and white - black and white are bad luck. red is good luck (not for PDRC)
7. lending money to other people - exactly!!
8. breaking things

9. buying new shoes - because 'shoes' in chinese is pronounced similar to 'sighing' sound.
