I am on my way to Laos and am considering flying, which airlines fly there from Chaing Mai and how much is it likely to cost, including airport taxes?

the one-way fare with LAO AIRLINES from CNX to VTE is 84 + 15 US-$ plus 500 Baht airport-Tax to be settled in cash prior to ur departure, which is certainly not a bargain, considering the short distance.

U'd be better off to fly CNX to Udon Thani with NOK AIR. a one way departing from CNX should cost u around 1.500 - 1900 Baht, depending on how early u book it. unfortunately, there are only flights on friday and sunday so far, though I heard the wanna add 2 more weekly flights in the future.

from Udon Thani u can easily get an AC-Bus to Vientiane (should be around 100 Baht), which does the run within less than 2 hours. U wont spend much more time than on the LAO plane, as the flight from CNX to VTE is stopping in Louang Prabang first.

all-in-all, you could save half of the cost compared to flying Lao airlines..... just a suggestion
