Hi All,

I normally get a 60 day tourist visa before departure but this time i am am planning to come to Thailand for 1 week & then travel to Vietnam for a few days.

Now if i get a tourist visa (and use it) it will obviously not be much good & will go to waste.

I understand the 30 day visa waiver so what would be the situation if i obtained a tourist visa but then came in on the 30 day visa waiver. After visiting vietnam i would come back after say a week.

Can i then use my tourist visa to enter?

You can ask immigration to not use the tourist visa, but there is no guarantee that they will not use it.

If you are flying to Vientnam from BKK you cna arrive on a visa exempt entry and get 30 days, than fly to Vietnam and apply for a tourist visa there.

You could try coming in and getting a visa exempt entry but if the immigration officer notices your visa he will more than likely stamp you in on the visa.

If you get stamped in on the tourist visa you could get a re-entry permit (1000 baht) that would keep your 60 day entry valid.

Or you could get a 2 entry visa that would only cost the equivalent of 1000 baht more than a single entry.
