phuket2013
I was tutoring a student today, and his mother asked me to put his sister's name into English; however every letter of the alphabet corresponded with a number (e.g. G = 3, U = 6...). She wanted the total of all the letters in the name to equal either 9, 14 or 24... I'm guessing this is something to do with luck or superstition, can anyone shed some light on it? wym
Don't know the details, but yes, Thais are very superstitious about their names, and numerology is very big. Hadn't seen the two combined before, mildly interesting I suppose. Wouldn't want to bother finding out the specific formulas involved myself. phuket2013
Yes, it was like a strange version of scrabble...! Decided to post on the off chance that anyone else had come across something similar. It's always interesting to learn more about other cultures. somchaismith
Possibly from their vehicle's number plates or the last two digits of winning lottery numbers.
