Pheu Thai Party predicts winning 300 seats in yesterday's polls

That will give them a clear majority and a return to power. Guess Suthep may have been wrong when he stated the majority supported him.

It is not sooo hard to win a majority if you run the elections without opposition.....The leader in North Korea also got reelected every couple of years. Honecker also won every election.

Saddam used to get 100 per cent of the vote with no opposition and Mugabe has been known to get more than 100 per cent of the vote in some areas whistling.gif and that's in a democracy just like Thailand. Of course the party boss in Zimbabwe is a very rich and powerful man...erm.... just like Thailand.

And Mugabe is a personal friend of Thaksin's who has business interests in Zimbabwe.

Easy to rack up a high score when there is no other major political party such as the Democrats contesting.

And whose fault is that..??

If ''the people'' were as against this govt as Suthep claims, then they had the option to submit a ''No Vote'' or simply vote for another party. If enough of ''the people'' were against this govt then they wouldn't even get near an overall majority.

False claims from ''He who stops Bangkok'' or just pore voting..??

Right on the nail. If enough voters supported Suthep's ideology, Puea Thai would have never received this amount of votes. It clearly shows the majority of Thais want Puea Thai to lead them. How hard is it for the Democrats to accept that?

It's funny how naive farangs were cheering the Dems boycotting the election, then supporting the yellow thugs in blocking the poll stations, ... and now complain that PT had no opposition in the same election laugh.png

If the Dems did not want the PT to win, they obviously used the wrong tactic rolleyes.gif

Funny how some posters got notions that the government were not corrupt. and everything is hunky dory. Shame you few have to be different from the norm.

But it could be that majority of farrangs are misguided.

Not misguided at all my friend. Some of us actually have a handle on the system in Thailand and have done for many years.

Do you honestly believe that things would be any better under a Democrat government..??

Now who's being misguided..??

Who mentioned the democrats ?? not me------you have just answered my question--- your handle is broken MY FRIEND, hope you get the full family back -then you will see who has the Handle. I will wait, and pee myself laughing if Thaksin gets back, you are in complete denial---good luck.

Mentioning the Democrats shows how crazy you think.

Of course they win, as they practically elect themselves... and that means there will be a NEW election committee with Pheu Thai only members to ensure there'll be no more resistance in the Thaksinomics-system

They were at least 50 other parties contesting.

Really???? Who????!!!! I've never hear about those bozos... cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Your awareness is impressive and lends credence, understanding and knowledge to your posts concerning the Machiavalian nature of Thai politics.

Long may we endure your erudition.

Lovely big words..

Any chance of a list of the 53 parties that stood in the election and if possible the date said parties were first registered..Thanks.

this is for anyone...icommunity etc.

Puea Thai wins more seats than in the last election. That clearly shows that the majority of Thais do not support the lunatic Suthep.

The votes are not in yet............................ Also as a 3 horse race..what do you expect?

ps: And 2 of those horses are lame.. CTP and BJT

Not Puea Thai's fault is it? Yingluck told Abhisit and the Democrats to participate in the elections but they refused. No right to complain if you dont participate.

But you have to look at it from the Democrats perspective.

Had the participated in the election they would have looked ridiculous shutting down Bangkok for weeks on end saying they represent the will of the Thai people yet only getting 20% of the vote. giggle.gif

Better to not participate and pretend you could have won the election if you participated.

Can't remember him saying the majority supported him. He said he would accept a PT government that came from election post-reform. PT's speculation about how many seats they think they might have won is just useless chest thumping until the MPs can be registered and a government formed and it seems highly unlikely that will ever happen due to the lack of constitutionality of the election.

Let them enjoy their "victory" while they figure out a way to borrow money to pay the farmers they've bilked.

Of course he was vague about the reforms, or who would appoint the members of the unelected People's Counsels to dictate the reforms, or how long they would take. But we can safely assume he would have accepted an election once the process was "reformed" enough to ensure that only people he approved of would win, regardless of who the majority of voters supported.

Thailand has The current population of the Kingdom of Thailand is about 69.52 million people,

of which 48 million are eligible to vote

Election Commission: voter turnout for yesterday was 45.84% or 20 million voters

so if Phua Thai got 50% of the vote it would be 10 million people out of 69 million... landslide

Let's do a little math. EC said of all eligible voters that could vote (so disregarding voters in areas with blocked or closed poll stations), 46% did so. For PTP to claim the same victory as in 2011 they will need to get at least the same percentage of the total possible popular vote. That was 34 % in 2011. So to get to that this year they will need 70% of the cast votes to be for PTP. Sounds a lot after hearing of the so many 'no votes' cast.

And not even taking into effect the southern voters who won't give PTP more than 10% in later election(s).

Will wait for total number of votes cast for PTP after most elections are done, but I estimate between 9.5 and 10 million. (Compared to more than 12 million in 2011 with less eligible voters).

They can have 300.

I'll go and cut them out of my old underpants

The ones that have been released by individual districts show that Puea Thai won a landslide vs. "No Vote"and other parties' votes.

In the meantime, hold onto that last straw like hell because once the official count is released by the EC, you better have your bags packed and go back to North Korea with dear leader Suthep for another round of classes.

In the 2011 election there was a higher number of total votes because there weren't violent thugs intimidating people at polling centers.

People can be excused for staying home.

Another Thai news source has reported that the unofficial turnout yesterday was just 45.8%, which will no doubt lead some to conclude that at least 54.2% of eligible voters have rejected Pheu Thai.

Majority rule anyone?

why? it's low because the fascists stopped people voting

That explains about 10% of the vote given that voting proceeded ok at 90% of the polling stations.

well maybe but I'm sure there are many who were fearful to vote at those 90% that were open... anyway it would have been way over 50% and if unobstructed I'm sure over 70% as usual

Pheu Thai Party predicts winning 300 seats in yesterday's polls

Other PTP predictions;

  • PTP predicts it will enjoy a landslide victory in Bangkok in 2011 (lost)
  • PTP predicts Thaksin's return to Thailand in 3 months. August 13th, 2009. (didn't happen)
  • PTP predicts rice scheme will be huge success (no comment needed)
  • PTP predicts that over 80% will turn out to vote in 2014 (48% "unofficially" turned out)

Pheu Thai has managed the crisis adeptly and with aplomb. Ad hominem attacks against Surapon don't change the fact either.

The broad scope of the amnesty bill would have accomplished much to reconcile Thai society. The government was willing to seek that broader reconciliation even at the cost of losing some of its supporters who were victimized by violence.

The government misjudged the extent and anger of the middle class and their manipulative elite superordinates to Thaksin's having been included. It's just past time the middle class and their higher ups got over themselves by accepting the broad and inclusive amnesty that would provide the reconciliation Thailand desperately needs. It's the only way to return to the road of peace and prosperity.

amnesty bill would have helped to reconcile the country...im sorry but what were the original protests about...seems so long ago ive forgotten...as have you sir...facepalm.gif

Never a word more truly spoken.

I refer once again to Khun Channil's open letter. The amnesty bill would have been the first step towards reconciling all the powers that be. There were benefits for both sides. Sometimes, one needs to take one step backwards in order to move two steps forward.

The most amazing thing is that with possibly the worst government in my time here and the Democrats having their best chance of wining an election for two decades Suthep's antics have managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of potential victory. If it turned out that all the time he was secretly working for BB it wouldn't surprise me.

First: "the government is not corrupt" or "the government was not corrupt". Back to English class for you.

Actually a great many farangs are aware that the government has always been corrupt. Suthep was so corrupt in parliament he caused the fall of the 1995 government (http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/27/us-thailand-protest-suthep-idUSBRE9AQ0EI20131127). However then, as now, big-shots were not charged with corruption unless even more influential big-shots, a military junta in Thaksin's case, needed a fall guy to cover up their own misdeeds.

It was the threat of violence that troubled people. Throughout last week the yellow shirts had stopped people voting and threatened/used violence at polling stations.

Don't blame him. He clearly cannot even calculate or understand the meaning of eligible voters and population.

69 million people includes children and others, who are not eligible to vote.

48 million eligible to vote includes the MILLIONS that were prevented from voting due to Suthep's militia seizing ballots and forcing election venues to close.

And Puea Thai got much more than 50% of the vote vs. "No Vote" votes.

In summary, his calculation makes absolutely no sense.

I predict they won't get anywhere near the 250-300 seats they are hoping for. Wait and see.

Who else? Banharn? Chuvit?

Yes, but I believe we will see an awful lot of "no votes" and with an overall turnout so low 45%(ish), and legal wranglings over whether an Election should have taken place in the first place or not, this is far from being over.

yes but the "no votes" doesn't matter....if 90 % "vote no" it isn't a problem (unless it is the only candidate, and they took care that this doesn't happen).

Now I'm confused, some say it was only one party running and that is why they win, others say up to 50 parties. Can someone actually confirm just how many parties there were to vote for? If it was more than say 3 can we put this lone party bullshite to bed.

Political parties come and go all around the world and other parties take their place. The Democrats came in Thailand and then they withdrew/went and other parties will take their place.
