Lite Beer
Farmers challenge Yingluck to a TV debate BANGKOK: -- Angry rice farmer leader Friday challenged the caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and all her caretaker cabinet ministers in charge of the rice-pledging scheme to debate the rice-pledging scheme on the television. The challenge came as farmers entered Bangkok yesterday in bid to see the relevant cabinet ministers in charge of the rice-pledging scheme as well as the caretaker prime minister to ask them about the rice payment.Until today none of them have come out to meet them. The angry farmers then marched to the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission late in the afternoon to petition the graft buster and secure its help to take legal action against those cheated politicians and officials.Thai Rice Farmers Association president Prasit Boonchoey was upset when they could not receive any positive response by all relevant ministers. He then challenged all these cabinet ministers and the prime minister to debate the rice-pledging scheme on the television with farmer leaders. He also disclosed that more than 20 busloads of farmers from the northeast provinces will join farmers at the Commerce Ministry Saturday to escalate their protest. He also said that on Monday farmers will march to the Office of the Defense permanent secretary to meet the caretaker prime minister to demand answer to the rice payment.Over a hundred of farmers from Suphanburi, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Chainat, Sraburi, Singburi and Nakhon Nayok arrived Thursday and stayed overnight at the Commerce Ministry after failing to meet minister who have authority to negotiate. They then stayed overnight at the Commerce Ministry and vowed to stay even in months until they were paid.Meanwhile famers from the western region provinces who blockaded the Rama II road at Wangmanao intersection have agreed to remove the blockade to travel to Bangkok to petition the NACC and join their colleagues at the Commerce Ministry. Not to mention the collapse was due to the employer running off with about 65% of all the money by embezzlement while putting the blame on the competition.... Then definitely not. Would you????? Oh.... and edited to add.... If they didn't even pay me my last year's salary to boot...... just to add insult to injury. She would have no idea what to say to them or how to answer any unprepared questions like "what is 1 + 1", It would be like watching the last night of The Star... Obviously she will be declining. If there was any shred of a chance that she would accept, every question would have to be screened first by the government, their legal advisers and their spin doctors. Then she would need 3 months coaching with the answers, or she would be given a secret signal to get other ministers to bail her out at any second. They would have no freedom to ask any questions that are not on the list. The show certainly would be recorded so it could be rampantly edited. So what's the point?... The rice farmers need to learn, they are dealing with professional scumbags.

djjamie
A debate? That is yinglucks achilles heel. She can't debate whether a debate is beneficial to democracy or not. Lets pretend Thailand is still democratic. If so then the caretaker PM will debate. Can't wait. In Australia there is a show called Q@A on TV that make all MP's, PM's and everyone in between accountable. No prepared questions. All "off the cuff" so i dare, i f$kcing dare the caretaker PM to answer one question without any help on a show like Q&A. I can give a reply to her answer already. Pathetic. Lets see democracy at work…(Not just elections)
Popular Post Scamper
The emancipation of the farmers didn't happen because of Pheu Thai and the UDD. It's happened in spite of them. This awakening is refreshing to everyone except Thaksin, who has spent far too much of other people's money already on having them not ask embarrassing questions. Of course Yingluck is not going to debate them. She's barely gotten over a debate she was asked to participate in Grade Two. But to have no cabinet ministers to meet them after they made the effort to come to Bangkok in order to do so, is tremendously galling, and the sign of unprofessionalism, complacency, and an administration that has long outworn its welcome. And where's Thida ? Miss Power to the People ? Surely she has something to say ? Jatuporn is awfully quiet. You see, the wind is completely taken out of the UDD's sails if they can't talk about coups.

They are suddenly realising with these election figures coming out that they have been fighting in the wrong corner. They are probably trying to figure out how to swing over to the other side without losing face. Nobody likes being the minority.
aimbc
I think if they have a debate they can make massive money from "Pay per View". I would pay to watch it. Make it worldwide. That should bring in enough income for YS to pay the rice farmers.

SamMunich
Anybody saying the farmers should not have accepted to pledge their rice above market price is too rich to ever have had to worry about money or how to feeed the family. Of course they will participate as long as it lasts. That was the devious thing about this "policy". Not to participate would be stupid from their point of view. That is somewhat similar to the monetary derivates traded, that came crashing down in 2006. Everybody knew it can not be forever, but everybody hoped to ride this wave as long as it lasts and get off before it comes crashing down. So did the farmers. Now the rice from other countries wasn't pledged by the simple farmers but by local big-shots, millers and traders and polticians most likely as well. We should make this distinction, else we end up with a big mess. As for the debate, YL will never accept a chance to loose so much face as when answering to farmers for her rice scheme plunder. Maybe, she can send some of her big mouths like Chalerm, Nuttawuth or Chatuporn... We can expect some turbulent weeks while the farmers come down to Bangkok...

The local PT MP had never been back to the electorate since the previous election and is nowhere to be seen now. There was a lot of noise and a few posters before the election, haven't heard if he got back in or not, there were 2 that stood against him but no noise from them and only one or two posters.
