Dear all,

I have intention to stay in Thailand for long term to stay with the gf.

What are the ways that I can do that apart from staying for 30-60 days and exiting and re-entering Thailand?

I'm looking at getting a work permit by starting a business is that possible?

Or is there anyway to get a long term stay visa in Thailand?

Any feedback is most appreciated!!

Jason here.

Starting a business is difficult and should be researched first as you will not be the sole owner of the company.

You have the other options of studying in Thailand or work for an employer. You would have more options if you decide to marry.

Studying might be a good alternative and it doesn't have to be Thai language.

Working for employer would be hard as I can't speak Thai!

Starting a business not being sole owner is fine. But I heard the start up capital MUST be around 1 million baht?

As for studying I'm open to that option! Must register with private school?

If you want a work permit and you are not married to a Thai you must have 2 million baht capital, if married to a Thai only 1 million baht capital. If you don't want a work permit and are married to a Thai, 15 baht capital is enough!

There are private schools in thailand with English as a medium?

They can apply for a student pass for me?

So my only best way to stay long term in Thailand is with a student pass?

Btw could I stay in Thailand with a 30-60 day tourist visa, then exit the country for maybe a few days, and then enter Thailand again for another 30-60 days?

How many times could I do that??

You can study Thai language that is taught in English. You could an ED visa for study and then get an extension of stay for study.

You should try to get a 3 entry tourist visa before you leave for Thailand. You could stay for a total of almost 9 months. You would get 60 days for each entry that can be extended for 90 days at immigration.

you mean to say I can sorta get a student pass to learn Thai in a private school using English as a medium?

How can one get 3 entries into Thailand as a tourist?! That would be awesome too!

Whether you can get a 3 entry tourist visa will depend upon where your are at. Not all embassies or consulates will issue them. Some will only do 2 entry visas and others only single entry visas.

You could travel to Thailand on a tourist visa and decide on what school you wanted to attend. Then after enrolling in the school school you would need to go to a embassy or consulate to get a non immigrant ED (education) visa with paper work from the school that would give you a 90 day entry then before the entry ends you would extend the permit to stay you got on entry at immigration.

I'm from SE Asian country so I reckon I do not require the entry visa like other countries?

In this case, I reckon my best way out is to obtain a student pass?

I'm 30+ this year. Would there be any barrier? ^_^

It makes no difference being from an ASEAN country. Every country has it own arrangements with Thailand as far as entries go. For example a person from Cambodia only gets a 14 day entry while a person from Laos will get 30 days and a Myanmar citizen needs a visa to enter.

You should get at least a single entry tourist visa. A visa exempt entry or one from from a bilateral agreement might not be enough time to get the paperwork for a ED visa..

There is no student pass. Only a visa or extension of stay.
