Photo: Thawit BilabdullarPHUKET: -- One Phuket teenager died and two were seriously injured after the motorbike they were driving slammed into a pick-up truck early this morning. The three friends had left school together to pick up supplies for a scout camping trip.Police and Kusoldharm Rescue Workers were called to the scene, in front of Baan Suan Neremit housing estate near the Heroine's Monument in Pa Khlok, at 8:30.“When we arrived, we found three students wearing Chalermprakiat School uniforms on the road. Only the driver was wearing a helmet,” said Lt Col Kittipoom Tinthalang of the Thalang Police.“They had rear-ended the back of a pickup truck that was waiting to make a right turn.”The 15-year-old driver, Chaiwat Chayliam, had broken his legs and arms. He was given CPR at the scene, then transferred to Thalang Hospital. Doctors tried for an hour to save his life, but couldn't, said Lt Col Kittipoom. The boy who had been sitting in the middle, Pongsakorn Pannattee, 15, was unconscious when rescue workers arrived. Chatdanai Thammachot, 13, the rider in the back, was conscious and able to speak. Both students were taken first to Thalang Hospital and then transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital, Col Kittipoom said. The distraught driver of the pickup, Rachadaporn Phonkwamdee, 39, was at first unable to give a statement to the police.“I was waiting to turn right to go into my house. I had put on the turn signal already, but they hit my car anyway. I saw them fly off onto the road,” she said, beginning to cry.Police called the school and a teacher came to the scene.“The teacher said that the students had permission to leave school to pick up things for a scout camping trip tomorrow in Nai Harn,” Col Kittipoom said.Source: http://www.phuketgazette.net/phuket_news/2014/One-Phuket-student-killed-two-injured-in-motorbike-accident-24573.html-- Phuket Gazette 2014-02-

Popular Post Just1Voice
3 on a bike built for 2, and only the driver wearing a helmet, which still didn't save him. And more than likely, driving too fast. Charge the parents, teacher and school with "reckless endangerment". Popular Post Travelman868
3 on a bike built for 2, and only the driver wearing a helmet, which still didn't save him. And more than likely, driving too fast. Charge the parents, teacher and school with "reckless endangerment". Edit for typo The driver was 15 so not a young boy. Anyone who has lived in Thailand know's that 3 on a bike is common and not necessarily dangerous This boy was wearing a helmet so where does your " reckless endangerment " come in ??? .

Sad .RIP. NO but those western ideas of following the road rules, completing real training & subsequently passing a test, wearing a DOT (or similar ) approved helmet, wearing sensible protective clothing & using the vehicle for its prescribed use (2 persons not 3!) may well HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE.... Or is this yet more day dreaming??????

Anyone who has lived in Thailand know's that 3 on a bike is common and not necessarily dangerous This boy was wearing a helmet so where does your " reckless endangerment " come in ??? . Using your logic, In a small aircraft the copilot doesn't need a parachute. Back in the 1940s in the UK, my school would not let pupils ride their bikes to school until the bikes had been inspected and given instructions on the highway code. How many schools here teach this? Three on a bike not dangerous? The bikes are designed for no more than two. OK, we know many people ignore this but it doesn't make it right. How many times have you seen three helmet less students careering along on a bike. Here in Sattahip, as all over Thailand it's happening everyday. Kids are naturally reckless and need guidance from adults. Not to curtail their freedom, but to prolong it.Police, parents, schools and adults all have their part to play in this. Unfortunately it is sadly lacking. Condolences to the boys family. For the other two, I hope you have learnt a few lessons here.
SeanPhuket
I saw the aftermath when on the school run. the boy looked gone, when on the way to school, and was definitely gone on the way back if all the bystanders pulling at his arms and legs had anything to do with it! that stretch of road is a wiset road mark 2. wide with more free flow traffic, equaling more speed! pity!! lucjoker
who gave a 15y old this motorcycle?(unresponsible parents) Who let them drive away to do the teachers work? The teachers see them with 3 on a motorcycle ,only 1 helmet, under age,no driver licence (so no insurance!)and the teachers let them go (during school time) on a death run . Very normal in thailand , the teacher will not feel the slightest guild ,it's not his pombem . The only pombem is the (maby)cancelled camping trip ?
Lokie
Sad state of affairs... probably all chatting about their upcoming trip and not concentrating on the road, a lot of factors to blame not just this and that, untill the Thai Govt enforce the law and actually educate road users then the carnage will unfortunately continue RIP
Popular Post bangon04
So the boy wearing the helmet was killed, and the 2 boys NOT wearing any helmet were not killed. Oh dear that is unhelpful to the general effort in road safety, isn't it?
stephenterry
From the brief account it does appear that the motorbike rider wasn't concentrating on the road ahead. Which, sadly, is how many youngsters behave when out with their friends. My sympathies to all concerned. A tragic loss of life - thankfully two boys survived.
