I was only charged VAT on the purchase price and shipping. This confirmed what I had read about the subject, which was Laptops enter Thailand duty free, however VAT charges still apply.

Hope this helps.rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the reply. Just to let you know, e-bay now offer a service with fed-ex where you can pay any import charges in advance, on-line. The package is delivered directly to your door, so you can avoid having to deal with the local customs office.

And if you use PayPal you get an extremely lousy exchange rate to add to the extremely high "pre pay" rate at Ebay. I looked at this option yesterday and they wanted $19 to "help" me out with the FEDEX and import charges for a $10 item. Thanks but no thanks, bought the same item for $ 11 using my Thai Pay Pal account and got free shipping from Hong Kong

By now everyone should know DON'T USE FEDEX or any other private delivery service and if you do please don't come whining here about how much you had to pay (even if you know in advance how badly your getting screwed)

Agree that FedEx & DHL are customs magnet.

The best option really is to buy online and have it delivered to a local US address, and have someone hand carry it for you if they happen to visit.

Or re-mail it to you using USPS
