Tourist visa extention on last day

Featured Replies

So, I thought I had some extra time on my tourist visa (entered on the 17th Dec, and I thought I had until 17th Feb), but I realised now that it actually expires tomorrow (14th Feb).

Unfortunately, tomorrow is apparently Makha Bucha (and Valentine's Day), so the Immigration Bureau is closed, as Makha Bucha it is an official holiday, so I can't get an extension tomorrow, as I had planned to do (good time for me to check ).

Am I able to get the extension the following day (15th), or can I pay a fine and get my extension, or will I get told to leave the country (I hope not for this silly mistake) because I applied 1 day too late?

Please help! I'm Panicking about this, this is my first time dealing with extentions, etc.

Yes, you can get the extension of stay on the 15th, and you will probably have to pay an overstay fine of 500 Baht.

Perhaps you are not aware that even you you apply for the extension before the expiration of your permission to stay you lose nothing, because the extension is always added to the end of your current permission to stay.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

15th and 16th is the weekend so they are closed.

They might well let you do it on 17th.

As said you should have gone a few days early.

You can will get the extension Monday but it will be at immigration discretion whether or not you will pay an overstay fine of 500 baht per day.

As said you could of done it early. Also a 60 day entry is never 2 months.

I did go on a Monday when mine expired on the Sunday. I had to pay the one day overstay fine when I paid for the extension.

That is not the rule. Did you get a receipt?

I got two receipt. One for the overstay and one for the extension. But I was surprised because I had heard that it should be ok to come on monday after the weekend it expired.

Maybe the officer didn't had his coffee yet. He should not have fined you.

It is up to the officer to fine you or not.

Overstay is counted from day 1 but sometimes they don't fine you when you come after the weekend.

Phuket immigration will fine you as according to them you could come any day before the expire date. (unless the officer is in a very good mood which does not happen often)
