Mediatank doesn't see my workgroup

I'm on Windows 7 and had a media-tank succesfully installed. I have upgraded the firmware, and now my tank doesn't see my workgroup anymore in the network search, unless I turn of Windows firewall for private and home networks. I'm not sure if this is a safe option.

I gave my mediatank a fixed IP address, but even I gave it a non existing dns server address, it seems to be able to connect to the internet, which I would like to prevent anyway.

How do I make the mediatank see my network, without the need to turn off firewall, and preferably disable the connection to the internet.

I'm on a wired network.

Have you thought of configuring your firewall and your router to only allow the specific accesses you require?

Give the NMT a fixed IP and allow that through your firewall.

And put a blocking rule in the Router for that IP.

I have given it a fixed ip address, but I have no idea how to allow that through firewall .

Google 'How to add an exception to Windows xx Firewall for Network Media Tank'.

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

You think I hadn't thought about that before starting this thread?

If that had resulted in answering my question, this thread would not be here.

Sorry, let me do the ****ing googling for you eh?

http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=15644

Thanks for that. the ***ing google you provided I found also and it doesn't work. In fact it says

thx for fast answer, but adding these port to exception didnt help me!

I double-checked...still working only when firewall is disabled

Edit: have disabled firewall in windows permanently. I am using zonealarm pro. Everything works now!!

I have opened ALL ports for the IP address my mediatank has assigned, both in inboumd and outbound exeption, and it doesn't see my workgroup.

Sorry I see only 7 posts in that thread, and nowhere I see anything mentioned about change log.

Anyway, it's a Himedia HD900B mediatank.

it worked before the firmware update, and even now there are still the shortcuts I made but the tank doesn't see my network.

Well you've bought a pup there judging by many of the comments. Here's the HD900B community forum, I'd use Google translate and plough through it to see if anyone mentions the same problem.

Even their contact page doesn't work, so maybe try their Feedback page.

Go through this thread

And this one

Or maybe even ask the question on their Facebook page

It might be a lengthy process, so I'd downgrade to the previous firmware if I were you.

There was one post in there saying it worked when he enabled File and Printer Sharing on that subnet. Is it turned on?

I really don't know anymore, I don't even know what is a subnet. I've read several posts on the web that say, make sure is on the sme network as your computer, I don't see an option to select a network. But i see nowhere in the properties of the rule a setting for printer sharing.

I have now 3 inbound rules in my firewall for de tank, and thses are the settings. You see thare is nothing else that can be enabled

I have no issues with the mediaplayer, and I'm sure the issue is with windows firewall, because as soon as I turn of firewall and do a network search on the media player it will find workgroup.

It must be that I create the rule wrong or what ever.

Also in my media devices in windows the player is not visible, anything else connected to the network like tv's or gameconsole shows up.

If your router is 192.168.0.1 then you want the your PC and the NMT to be, for example. 192.168.0.xxx (e.g. 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.101). The Subnet mask is usually 255.255.255.0 and the Gateway should be the Router 192.168.0.1

If you can open a command prompt on Windows 7 in this configuration type "ping 192.168.0.101" (or whatever the IP address of the NMT is). If you get a response, then you are on the same network and they are communicating.

I can ping my NMT from my windows 7. I can connect to my windows homeserver from my NMT , but I can not connect to Windows 7.

I'm sure there is something wrong with windows 7 firewall settings .

File and printer sharing is enabled on my computer, mind you nothing was changed on my computer, I only upgraded the firmware on my NMT and gave it the same IP address as previously.

I'm now currently playing a movie from my Homeserver through my NMT. When I now look in the media streaming option in my windows 7 home computer I get the following.

Still I can not connect to my windosw 7, but when the server is switched on I can see the computer in Workgroup on my NMT. When server is not turned on Workgroup doesn't show up at all.
