Bad air quality in Hua Hin today?

Featured Replies

Anyone local have a opinion about the air quality in Hua Hin today? I was told it was not smoky and horrible but it really smelled like burning season to me. I noticed it everywhere except right at the beach. Just wondering as it has looked hazy since I got here. I guess the question is, is today (02/18/14) normal air quality?

Normally air quality is good in Hua Hin. I smelled the burning yesterday too but that is not usual.

If you venture West from Hua Hin you'll see quite a bit of sugar cane around and it's harvest time. The farmers burn the cane before cutting it which causes smoke and ash to be thrown into the atmosphere. They burn the cane day and night.

Normally this isn't a problem in Hua Hin itself as the winds mostly come from the East and blow the detrious Westwards. If you can smell burning it's most likely to be sugar cane that's being burnt at this time of year and the winds have dropped or boxed the compass.

I heard that a couple of days ago there was big fire somewhere along the railroad near the Chomsin Road crossing. I think that was the smoke I smelled.
