My wife and I are looking at the news and seems some areas have very little water to grow rice in some northern areas. I am looking at it on the news now and my wife is translating it for me?

Any posters in the north or other aeas see this ?

Depending on the particular area, most rice (unless you have access to river etc for irrigation) is grown to suit the annual wet season, most farmers start to get their paddies ready after the first rains in May and plant May/June.

I live south of Khorat in a rural farming area.

Monday I read a thread on TV about a drought in the Khorat area this season.

I am baffled.

Just two months ago the entire area was flooded and the area here was 4-5 feet under water!

Where did all of that water go?

Maybe there is a need for more reservoirs to retain the flood waters to be used in the dry season??

For what it is worth, right now the river is at it's normal level for this time of year, the kalongs are running full to over full ( spilling out onto roads in some areas) and rice planting and irrigation is going on at a normal pace.

I see no indication of a water shortage when I look around at this time.

In 2013 there were some areas with a substantial deficit in rain.

In total all over Thailand there was no drought.

Deviation from the normal values in 2013 (Jan 1 to Dec 31) in the picture below.

We are living in one of the dry areas, while others had substantial flooding.
