Yingluck used state TV to put forth a narrative of lies that was intentionally designed to sow hatred between the farmers and the PDRC before the violent push by Chalerm yesterday. It was unconscionable for her to do that - to pit Thai people against Thai people - especially as it was founded on such a lie. Far from it, the farmers have now become embraced by the protest movement, and have even been the recipients of donations from it, from the very people on the streets that Yingluck chooses to dismiss so summarily with one brush stroke. On the one hand the Yingluck administration condemns " fake farmers " and on the other hand they try to sow hatred among the farmers towards the PDRC, all at the same time of continually dodging their own responsibility for what they have done to the farmers.

Scamper, you need to read a bit more carefully. The money that was donated to Suthep to help the farmers, DID NOT go to the farmers. It was given to attorneys for legal fees encountered to help the farmers. The farmers themselves never got a stang of it.

Anyone been watching developments in Kiev, Ukraine with the anit-government protests on CNN? Very extensive and detailed coverage with interviews of government officials, protest leaders and Russian/EU leaders, video camera coverage of the streets, analyst panels discussions, comments from US Congressmen and the Executive Branch.

Then CNN turns to Thailand and you see a 1 minute video clip of Suthep's demonstators from an iPhone, a quick comment with a street protester,a few reported words of encouragement for peace, then end of coverage. Even the Thai US Embassy issues a bland standard comment that Thais solve their issues peacefully and avoid violence.

What is happening to Thailand's democracy is toxic to other democratic nations who are distancing themselves from the tragedy that is choking democracy out of the nation's political life. No one wants to say anything that might encourage the insurrection.

Farmers are HUNGRY, they are getting SUICIDE because a stupid and criminal policy. And I guess no one has something to object about this.

If they need food and money for plant new crops, I guessed he gave to them for do the use they better thought (even if it was a symbolical help as seen as 25 millions were almost nothing if distributed to every farmer).

Fair enough they hate the yellow shirts so they went as a business prospect. Numbers have declined and business is no longer viable. I understand that and understand why they packed up and went home. Enough killings, enough injuries, time for more constructive and politically mature thinking.

When peaceful revolution is made impossible, violent revolution is made inevitable.

In some cases it is justified.

In the short term the cost is high but in the overall scheme of things the price is cheap. It happened in the United States and they came out OK. I am not commenting one way or the other on their policies but they made out very well in the long run.

This continual protesting here in Thailand has done nothing to help the nation no matter who has won the round. But it can become tiring to the point where the people make it real bloody.

For myself I firmly support the idea of an interim government with no political leanings accompanied by a non political body to touch up the constitution where it is needed and put some teeth into it. Basically it is not that bad but there are always the people who will find the flaws and use them to extort things to their own advantage. For instance the election guidelines are defiantly in need of a rewrite and some teeth added into them. There would have to be a time limit set one year to a year and a half as it would take a while to find suitable people from all walks of life to sit on it. In my opinion the King would be a good choice to pick the chair. Who the people are or would be I do not know but in a Nation of 66 million people I am sure there are qualified people who given the chance would do a wonderful job.

I believe it should have some politicians on it also. Democrats we know there are good ones. What we don't know but I strongly suspect is that out from under the yoke of Thaksin there are good PTP politicians. The committee should not have to many politicians and lawyers but the lawyers would also be needed. Academics Agriculture, Labor. Manufacturing, Tourism White collar workers and any other field. All with an agenda to make Thailand a better country to live in.

It may or it may not be democratic but it is only a temporary thing and Thailand would come out a much more mature and united country. for my money it would be well worth it weigh it against 80 more years of turmoil and get back to me why your insistence on democracy is worth all that.

Forgot to mention there would be an election after the committee has done it's work. I wouldn't even mind one if all they had done at that point was changed the election laws.

This is one view. For me it is the view of a person with a clear right wing agenda who accepts the dictatorship of the autocrat Thaksin. Thaksin is a man who lusts after power and only uses the word 'democracy' as a marketing ploy against the opposition. His administration, including the current one, is no more democratic than the regime in North Korea or Cambodia, where Thaksin's best fried, Hun Sen, came to power through a coup. Thaksin is a very dangerous man and it appears that some farangs are blind enough, or bigoted enough to take this man at face value. Suthep might not be the greatest person on earth, and like many Thai politicians he may be tainted. But that does not change the fact that his cause is correct. All the bleating about his past, his need for power and the rest only repeats the lies carefully put together by Thaksin's PR people (Amsterdam included). After the 1992 massacres of civilians exactly the same thoughts were expressed as you have described. After many years of discussion and work by many different groups a new constitution was created in 1997. It was know as the people's constitution and at the time was hailed as a great success and a leap forward in democracy.

Unfortunately the army binned the constitution in the 2006 coup and produced a new one.

So my question is what is there to stop such activity in the future even if some reform process is put in motion ?

Suthep is sounding more and more fanatical with every passing day. Clearly he's got some personal obsession about Thaksin. And alarmingly it now seems not only with Thaksin. Suthep is quoted in the OP above as saying that his protesters “would ... not yield to her [Yingluck] and would pursue her any place and any time until the Thaksin regime and all its lackeys were driven out of the country".

So Suthep is now threatening not only to have the Shinewatras kicked out of Thailand but all their "lackeys" too. Potentially huge numbers of people could get the boot, if Suthep has his way. Or maybe he’ll have some system of public “show trials” a bit like in the old Soviet Union, where you could denounce “the evil Thaksin” and thereby be allowed to stay in Thailand!
