That depends upon the border crossing used.

There is no limit at some border crossings. Four at some and 3 at others.

It would be better for them to get a tourist visa.

He looked into a tourist visa but that would need a flight from where he lives to the consulate in Manila. Then there is a suplementry form for Filippinos that asks for a sponsor, copies of the sponsors bank details, bank details of the applicant and confirmed return flight details. After all of that there is no certaintity of a visa being granted.

Before the expiration of 30 days visa exempt entry he can go to Laos cheapest than Malaysia if he's staying in Bangkok.

1,000 baht only for single entry ( 2 months visa ) and 1,800 to the travel agency ( including food, hotel and transportation ).

What about an airline ticket, does he need to show one out of Bangkok if he applies for a tourist visa? Also according to what I have read he needs to have his original ticket to gain his 30 day visa exempt showing a return within the 30 days or the airline could refuse him boarding. He was thinking about getting a return ticket within the 30 day period then changing the date when he gets here.

He could get a onward ticket and use it to go out for a tourist visa.and then travel back overland.

He will not need to show a ticket out for the visa in Laos or Penang.

I would not recommend a return ticket within 30 days the immigration officers should ask him many questions why, what and show the money to prove that he can afford to stay here for 30 days.

Philippine immigration officers are very strict they required a roundtrip ticket. There are so many promotion now in different airlines he can book now if he's planning to come here.

I think you missed my point. He has been here many times on the 30 day visa exempt scheme and has never been questioned as to why he wants to come here or been asked to see the money to cover his visit.

There was a Pinoy visa service, leaving from the PH community on Suk 71, then to Lumphini then to Poiphet.

I once took it, we were issued emailed flight vouchers to accompany our applications .. Maybe worthwhile speaking to the fillipinas on the streets ( after school hours, the moto taxis at Phra Kanong BTS will know where ), as im sure they have their own workarounds to their visa situation.
