LuckyLew
This weekend I am off to the middle of nowhere ... apparently somewhere between Sisaket and Cambodia I have been told that the little village has no internet cafe but TRUE move 3G will still work on mobile devices I have a Samsung note 8 that has unlimited package 3G with TRUE Last night my friend Mr Google showed my how to tether the note8 to my laptop and it works So my questions are: 1- Is this legal to do? 2 - Will I incur any additional charges from TRUE when I use my laptop via tethering? like roaming fees?? Thanks in advance LL
Upnotover
It is legal and won't cost you anything. I use it at home when I need a big download as my AIS connection is 10 times faster than my TOT landline. Some phone companies to not allow tethering but I never had any issues with AIS. Crossy
Yes, completely legal. If you use the portable hotspot you can share your connection (and your data credits) with up to 10 WiFi devices. No additional fees for using the lappie on the tether, obviously if you are roaming off the True network then data roaming fees will apply. Chicog
It's how I get Internet in hotels that charge for Wifi. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Somtamnication
All legal. Even more fun stuff to do with the Note 8 if you can root it. PDANET is a good tethering tool (pc and android). And wife was tethering to the 8 via the built in tethering.

Somtamnication
Rooting the Note allows you to have more control over it. Samsung locks a lot of its functionalities within their own version of Android. Rooting releases that lock, basically. http://www.google.co.th/url?q=http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8-0&sa=U&ei=jV0GU6GfI83irAeftIHIBw&ved=0CCAQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNFAoumdGxLXHKO_aIyF06aKk9p-jQ Anyways, pdanet is one of the better tethering options. It works both ways (pc to note note to pc).
CzarThustraThusSpake
If you do not need to pay any additional charges for bandwidth no matter how much you use, then use your laptop as much as you like. But you might find that your laptop uses a great deal more bandwidth than your smart phone while doing browsing the web. When you say unlimited 3G, I had thought that you get 10GB of bandwidth per month for the 1000Baht package, and then you must top up again to maintain 3G speeds, or it will fall back to about 380Kbps, or something. I could easily go through 10GB of bandwidth in a month using my PC or Laptop.
Pib
Completely legal...periodically when my True home internet goes down, I pull out my Samsung S4 on a DTAC 3G plan, turn on the S4 HotSpot/ Tethering function, use the S4 as a HotSpot (ie.., a Wifi router), my laptop then connects to the S4 HotSpot, and I continue my surfing/emailing. I also do this periodically while driving to allow a 3G internet connection for a "Wifi only" tablet.

It works both ways (pc to note note to pc). Valuable advice, as I research buying my first smart phone. I am reading about whether different manufactured models ( eg Samsung Grand Prime ) will tether with my iPad ( which I was too short sighted to buy the cellular model). On another forum, someone had difficulty tethering between a Samsung phone and an iPad with no cellular feature. I amBuying a phone this week, so any advice appreciated. Thanks. Somtamnication
I have not had an Ipad in a few years. I don't know if the Ipad has a HOT SPOT option on it or not. My smart phones and my Note 8 does. So in theory, the Ipad can connect to your smart phone..Not sure the other way around.
