Only time will tell if she is right or just whistling past the graveyardWell I was just told by the Board of .

Well i was just told by the Board Of Investment that ALL THE RULES ARE NOW CHANGED to the detriment of foreigners and that 3 BOI businesses are LEAVING Chiang mai region PER WEEK since the Bangkok troubles as THE GOVERNMENT is making it harder and harder on foreign owned businesses.

FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE not someone else s words here.

I will back you up on that one because I am moving my business out of Thailand after 8 years. Red tape and total bulls**t from every angle. The BOI is a complete joke along with the revenue / tax office.

It's a sad day when the the Prime Minister of a country makes announcements of national importance via Facebook blink.png

Why is it sad? There are so many (young?) Thais who get their news there. It is after all, 2014.

Just a pity a lot of old falangs don't expose themselves to media that comes from angles they don't understand or that cause them discomfort.

Most people in the world get all their news from social media. It is a very smart move from Yingluck and let the nation and BP print out their guff and leave it on the newstands.

Google search is awash with articles stating that FB and Twitter and more widely read than old mainstream media.

http://stateofthemedia.org/2012/mobile-devices-and-news-consumption-some-good-signs-for-journalism/what-facebook-and-twitter-mean-for-news/

So who's the smart one, and who are the Luddites.

What a nonsense post.

If something causes discomfort then why would someone want to expose themselves to it.

I think that I am qualified to speak for and represent the minority of us on here who do not want to be a part of a social media.

Have you even thought that some of us do not want to hold a facebook account?

I certainly do not want to be on faccebook or twitter, as I do not feel the need to tell everyone when I have been to the toilet or what I had for dinner.

The world turned perfectly before facebook and if it was gone tomorrow it would make no difference.

I don’t understand people who have to get their daily dose of social media.

I have witnessed people having a text conversation while being in the same room, whatever happened to the art of conversation?

Us old falangs (as you call us) are constantly being pushed to get a facebook account even if we don’t want one.

I get e-mails from companies that I have used for years (for example hotels, restaurants, etc.) telling me that if I ‘Like’ them on facebook, I can get a discount.

It matters not that I have been using their service for years, a new customer with a facebook account will get offers while the long standing loyal customers get sweet Fanny Adams.

Now we come onto our favourite forum and we have a jumped up fool who comes on here and insults our intelligence for being able to carry on with our normal lives without having to post every move that we make.

Get it into your tiny brain that we will not change our choice of lifestyle just to make you happy.

wish i could give you 20 likes

i'll second that as far as the tax office is concerned. In order not to pay tax to the German tax office on my German pension i was required to fill out a form and present it to the Thai tax office to get an official stamp confirming that i do not work in Thailand.I even had the form translated in Thai although it was printed in German,French, and English.

"Sorry we can't confirm that."

"Why not"

"Because you don't have a tax number"

"I know i don't have a tax number,that's because i am not employed"

"Sorry,no tax number no confirmation"

"Thank you three times"

Bunch of morons.

Being able to own and control 49% of the business you 100% invested in doesn't sound like much of an investment haven to me. Evidence suggests that being a maid or a gardener can be rather lucrative if you have the right boss.

not only that,

companies shall become very competitive and shall take advantge of having to employ 4 high skilled, motivated, talented, commited and business oriented and english speaking thai workers for each 1 foreigner worker.

don´t panic 100% success

"Amazing Thailand"

brought to you by Skype, Facebook & Twitter.

The Kingdom of Thailand, run by a megalomaniac from a penthouse in Dubai using Skype to communicate with his puppet sister performing the role of Prim Minister who posts government updates to the world on her Facebook page.

Truly amazing stuff.

It's almost as if Orwell's 1984 had been re-written as a comedy.

Or maybe a film. What about 'Carry On Thailand' staring Sid James as Chalerm, Kenneth Williams as Thaksin, Bernard Breslaw as Suthep, Hattie Jacques as Pojaman, Barbara Windsor as Yingluck.....

Oh I thought the ORIGINAL players would do a fine job scripted as themselves. They entertain us every day

I think you are WAY off track. Luddites? Smart ones? Now who says SOCIAL Media and GOOGLE and facebook are FACTUAL. It is opinions of many not maybe truthful, but opinions. I agree the newspapers have had their day and no longer report the truth either but i do think Facebook is not a means to advertise public policy.

I would suggest NEWS on television would reach more people in this country. Everywhere you go the TV is on

The PTP has exploited as much as they can from fellow Thai so they are looking for new victims.

I think many investors in Thailand are looking to pull out.

Email can be argued to be more efficient a way to communicate, but there's no replacement for meeting with someone face to face. In YL's case she is using social media in lieu of a more official, more personal platform, and THAT is an embarrassing way to run a country. She is not addressing the country in any official, in person capacity but rather is hiding out posting stuff on Facebook. Hardly anyone can argue the merit of that coming from the leader of a country of 65 million
