KRABI: -- All 37 tourists made it to shore yesterday after two speedboats collided at sea about 1km from Krabi.

Krabi City Police were informed of the incident at 3:30pm and immediately contacted the Krabi Marine Office to scramble a rescue team.

Six were injured when the Chainartnumchork 8, owned by Barracudas Tour, and the The Pimmasa 5, owned by Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas Krabi, crashed near the popular tourist destination of Ao Nang.

Jorsen Anderson, 27, and his 4-year-old son, Anton, were seriously injured in the accident and taken to Krabi Hospital, Sophon Kongthong of the Krabi City Police said.

They were later transferred to Bangkok Hospital Phuket, where a staffer reported that Mr Anderson was suffering from chest pain and his son had a broken leg.

“Chainartnumchork 8 was going too fast and rammed us,” Captain Anan Khaothong of The Pimmasa 5 told the Phuket Gazette.

Witness’ reports given to police support Mr Anan’s statement, said Lt Sophon.

“Water started pouring into the boat and as it was sinking, tourists jumped into the sea,” Mr Anan added.

Despite damage to the bow of the Chainartnumchork 8, it was able to make it back to Ao Nang Beach.

The Krabi Marine Office is continuing its investigation into the accident.

Police have yet to charge anyone over the incident.

Again…

The repetitive nature of these incidents in Thailand is quite amazing…

These headlines paraphrased below are simply way too common:

- Speed boat Collision / hits swimmer, serious injury…

- Overloaded speed boat overturns, full mooners lost at sea…

- Bus skids off the road into a ravine, rain blamed, xx victims…

- Speeding MiniVan crashes, rain blamed, occupants flung from van, no seatbelts…

- Lorry’s brakes fail while descending hill…

- Bus crashes as driver falls asleep at the wheel…

I was in Krabi a couple of weekends ago and took the 4 island tour for the day. So many boats out there all racing to get to a destination, quick look around and then speeding off to the next place. There is no co ordination and no regulation in this industry, all done for the sake on money. The destinations are overcrowded and dirty, trash left everywhere, of course no one taking responsibility for the mess.

...unfortunately...a lot of van and bus and BOAT* drivers...*(especially 'speed boats') think they have to drive excessively fast...

...is it to impress the passengers with their skills.....???

...I wish I knew.....I wish THEY knew.....

...it's just so immature and irresponsible...

<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

27 in one boat , Centara allow only the right amount by Kilos , bit like a Lift.thumbsup.gif alt=thumbsup.gif> .

You didn't read the article, there were two boats involved.

Somehow I think alcohol and / or drugs played a part in this unnecessary accident.

Or maybe the speedboat driver was just blind.

You read the article, or were did you get this from?

Carsten007 - you need to read the article again. There were 27 people in the Chainartnumchork 8 and 37 tourists altogether.
