Turkleton
One more example of TOT's cheating speedtest.net: In summary: TOT is throttling the speed down to 50K/s, independent from destination (except inside TH) This really sucks so much.. If somebody wants to try some server: I've attached an Excel sheet of all current speedtest.net servers... TOT direct connection(!) to an official speedtest.net server in GermanyC:\Users\xxx>wget http://speedtest1.intersaar.de/speedtest/random4000x4000.jpg--2014-02-27 11:21:14-- http://speedtest1.intersaar.de/speedtest/random4000x4000.jpgResolving speedtest1.intersaar.de... 213.135.3.222Connecting to speedtest1.intersaar.de|213.135.3.222|:80... connected.HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OKLength: 31625365 (30M) [image/jpeg]Saving to: `random4000x4000.jpg.11' 3% [=> ] 1,107,944 398K/s eta 91s always ~400-500K/s even at peak times = not, or almost not throttled! TOT via Singapore VPN (digitalocean and oneasiahost) to an official speedtest.net server in GermanyC:\Users\xxx>wget http://speedtest1.intersaar.de/speedtest/random4000x4000.jpg--2014-02-27 11:23:58-- http://speedtest1.intersaar.de/speedtest/random4000x4000.jpgResolving speedtest1.intersaar.de... 213.135.3.222Connecting to speedtest1.intersaar.de|213.135.3.222|:80... connected.HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OKLength: 31625365 (30M) [image/jpeg]Saving to: `random4000x4000.jpg.12' 3% [=> ] 1,079,073 49.2K/s eta 10m 21s <----throttled at ~50K/s (But it's NOT caused by a slow VPN server---look at the next result) Singapore VPN (digitalocean) to an official speedtest.net server in Germany[root@xxxxxxxx ~]# wget http://94.125.79.202/speedtest/random4000x4000.jpg--2014-02-26 23:19:46-- http://94.125.79.202/speedtest/random4000x4000.jpgConnecting to 94.125.79.202:80... connected.HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OKLength: 31625365 (30M) [image/jpeg]Saving to: ârandom4000x4000.jpg.1â61% [================================================> ] 19,403,435 1.97M/s eta 11s <--- not as fast as light, but ok for most puposes Edited February 27, 2014 by Turkleton
muratremix
So TOT throttles Singapore location too? Thats sucks. More sucks than 160 ms ping to Singapore
GuyL
While it is likely that TOT is throttling its bandwidth, speedtest.net is not much reliable anyway. You should get more realistic results with http://testmy.net/ for instance.

Turkleton
oops, forgot server list speedtestnet server list.rar While it is likely that TOT is throttling its bandwidth, speedtest.net is not much reliable anyway. You should get more realistic results with http://testmy.net/ for instance. This wasn't (and shouldn't be) a speedtest, just an example to prove TOT's cheating... I did not use speedtest.net from browser, but downloaded files from their official server via cmd/shell EDIT: even "Tanzania" gives a ~500K/s result... --2014-02-27 13:12:02-- http://speedtest.simbanet.co.tz/speedtest/speedtest/random4000x4000.jpgResolving speedtest.simbanet.co.tz... 41.221.41.61Connecting to speedtest.simbanet.co.tz|41.221.41.61|:80... connected.HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OKLength: 31625365 (30M) [image/jpeg]Saving to: `random4000x4000.jpg.17'23% [=================> ] 7,523,472 432K/s eta 75s Edited February 27, 2014 by Turkleton

davejonesbkk
speedtest is a complete and utter waste of time. Apparently Im getting a ping of 11ms to east coast US right now
Turkleton
The most reliable "speedtest", is to download a file from your own Dropbox/Google drive. Use wget or curl for that, to check your "single connection speed" (important for Live streams, Youtube, etc.) Use a Download-Manager with multiple connections, to check your "overall speed" (Important for file downloads/bittorrent.) Everything else is just nonsense... EDIT: Anyway, I'm tired about this TOT crap "Lets throttle them all, even Singapore" and will try my luck with 3bb next week....
