Working and living in Thailand

It's weird how often this little gem of wishful thinking seems to be cropping up on different fora. Still, I must admit that it's seductive - just not sure how many million Indonesians/Filipinos most ASEAN countries would be prepared to welcome with open arms ......

ASEAN has been in around for decades. It is the AEC that will start at the end of this year. It only has to do with trade and etc. There is no open borders provision. I think some people assume it is going to be like the EC and it is no where near being like that.

Thailand announced some time ago that following the establishment of the ASEC occupations for other ASEAN members would be limited to 8 professional categories e.g Doctor, lawyer etc.

They are not going to,let thousands of well educated, english speakers into the country unfortunately.

"how many million Indonesians/Filipinos "

Sort of echoes a similar situation back in farang utopia where "authoritative estimates" of the impact of such free movements of labor were pulled from a Magic Eight Ball and, typically, half-assed.

Cutting across concerns about immigration, wages and social dumping, the issue of free movement of labour is now a hot topic in most of EUR15 countries

Two themes seem likely to play a central role in the real debate in the 2014 European elections; jobs and immigration, and, of course, they’re linked. The immigration debate has shifted in recent months from economic migrants entering the EU illegally, and the absence of any common immigration policy; to concerns focused on free movement of labour, crystallised this month by the lifting of the temporary restrictions on access to the labour market for Romanians and Bulgarians.

...

In the UK, the debate has been conditioned by the underestimate made in 2004 of those likely to come to the UK from the 10 East and Central European member states. This has undermined credibility about the numbers of Bulgarians and Romanians likely to come.

as far as i know she can live and work here with no visa but she still need working permit i think.,it's a good opportunity for her to work on ASEAN 2015 as well as Asian neighbors.,Goodluck!!!smile.png

In order to get a work permit requires a non immigrant B visa.

Nothing will change for her when the AEC starts at the end of this year.

"No disrespect-are people who thick"...

Welcome to Thai visa, maybe Google directed him here and he thought that a bunch of knowledgeable forum members would point him I'm the right direction.

It had been said that there is no such thing as a poor question, only a poor answer. And for info, just how does the Google algorithm work?

All that is happening next year is that ASEAN plus also China will start operating a free-trade agreement which means tariff-free imports. it is not a EU-style agreement concerning the free movement of labour. Indeed, Singapore and Brunei would never agree to free movement of labour or the whole population of indonesia, Phillipines and Vietnam would move in.

Be aware that with or without you she may not evebnbe allowed to leave the philippines, on suspicion of potential exploitation, by their own immigration.

Use the search function there are various reports about that.
