Do I have to do a visa run every 90 days or do I just have to report at immigration with a multiple non-immigrant O visa?

You will hve to do a visa run every 90 days.. unless of course you qualify for (and obtain) an extension.

Does my 1 year start when I arrive in Thailand

No .. The visa is valid for 1 year from the date of issue, and entitles you to stay in Thailand for 90 days per entry

I will be going to Wat Pah Nanachat in Ubon province in August to seek ordination. I am told they require a person to stay a year before ordination. I just recieved my multi entry non-imm O today, for some reason I had the idea in my head that the one year started when I set foot on Thailand soil. Is it possible when my multi entry non-imm o expires (assuming I'm not ordained yet) for me to get a tourist visa? Any other thoughts?

if you do a visa run just before the immi non o visa expires you will get another 90 days stay and so you have about 15 months to complete..

Yes you can get a tourist visa after that, but why not extend (that if you qualify of course)

Speak to Ajan Sirri, or look on the noticeboard in the food hall. All the information you need will be there. They have the bus numbers and costs. Some of the others there will offer all the advice you need. They have people who can help with extensions if you need.

At WPN you spend some time as a lay memeber, then you are ordained as a novice, usually around the rains retreat. Once you have been ordained as a novice the wat sorts out your visa. It is only while you are an anagarakan (?) you have to do visa runs.

Just get there and relax. It is a beautifull place.
