Transferring a tourist visa to a non-immigrant O visa

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Was at the Consulate in Perth today and the lady working there suggested that whilst I'm in Thailand I apply for a non-immigrant O visa as my parents live there (British nationals on a retirement visa).

Is this doable? Can I transfer a tourist visa to a non-immigrant O within Thailand and if so, is having parents who live there on a retirement visa sufficient to meet the requirements?

I am a 25 year old British citizen, my parents are in their late 60s if that is of any consequence.

Cheers

No, only if you are under 20 years of age can you do that.

You might be able to get a non-o visa based on visiting your parents, but there are no extensions available for that.

Thanks for the replay, Mario.

Odd, when I went back today to pick up my visa she seemed adamant that this was possible and there was no "under 20" ruling. Guess the only way to find out for sure is to go to an immigration office!

This is from clause 2.20 of Thai Police Order 777/2551 that is for dependent extensions.

Many (most) Thai Embassy's/Consulates/ Hon Consulates know very little about immigration rules/procedures .

You have received sound very good, reliable advice but you are right best check with immigration once in Thailand.

I am sure you will keep us posted with the outcome of your visit to the immigration office.smile.png
