As many of you may recall, two years ago, there were a series of mysterious deaths in Thailand. At the time, there wasn't much confirmed. The turning point came when the two Canadian sisters died under mysterious consequences and the Canadian government claimed the two bodies. The coroner in the home province for the two sisters launched an investigation. Bits and pieces of information have been leaking out over the past 6 months, and the official results are not due to be released until June (2014). However, the Norwegian medical examiner obtained some of the information from the Quebec coroner and informed the Norwegian victim's mother as to the likely cause of death. The Canadian French and English networks are about to release a story that may hurt Thailand's tourism.

The cause is believed to be the use of a restricted and controlled insecticide used to deal with severe bed bug infestations. It is believed that the women were exposed to aluminum phosphide.

The CBC has now released a preliminary news report and it will cause shockwaves. The Thai Ministry of Health now acknowledges the possibility of the poisoning due to the uncontrolled use of the pesticide.

The most likely explanation is the acute intoxication and it is intoxication from the chemical that belong to the pesticide group,” Dr. Pasakron Akarasewi, with Thailand's Ministry of Health, told the CBC/Radio-Canada investigation.

Other media outlets in the EU, And Australia are expected to revisit the mysterious deaths of their own nationals.

If ToT thought that it had a problem with tourism with the protests, this could seriously hurt the hospitality business because nothing has been done to control a restricted and deadly chemical that is apparently used inappropriately by Thai hotels.

I'd be very surprised if this is even noticed that much among people that aren't already tuned into Thai issues.

Regular visitors already know such dangers are commonplace.

Be willing to take very long odds against this actually being the cause of any sort of significant (> 1%) downturn for any length of time (> 3 months).

But great if they've got to the bottom of this, MAYBE it will result in some practices in the hotel industry being modified.

The story of the Canadians was very sad.

However , the news story about to be released will not make one iota of difference to tourist numbers coming to Thailand

On subjects like this, mysterious deaths, why does it take so long for the results to be released?

You would think if it were a life-threatening possibility to anyone, that the results would be released as soon as possible if only to save one life by the information provided?

Surely no individual testing could take so long to determine death?

If you're talking about within Thailand, anything that might embarrass the Kingdom will be swept under the rug no matter the cost.

And anyway human lives being lost isn't that big a priority here, especially if they're foreigners.
