I want to get a passport for my 2 kids who are half thai half english, apparantly i need to have a translated birth certificate does anybody know how i get one and if its in bangkok can it be done by post.

Usually each embassy has a list of appointed translators. I recommend to use one of them as otherwise you run the risk that they will not be accepted. At least this is the case with my embassy.

There are many translation service providers available on web, but selecting the most reliable one is really very hard. You can try the services of The Migration Translators, they are perfectly fit for the job you are looking for.

Humm ... I'm not sure if the above advice is correct.

A translation, to my knowledge, has to be done by a translator who is registered to do that, rather then to be on the 'Official list' somewhere.

Firstly, you haven't mentioned if you want the Thai Birth Certificate translated in to English ... but I'll presume that an English translation is what you need since it's for the UK.

What that thread does is give you location of the place where the Aussies and Brits do their Visa applications.

On the lower floors of that building there are more then 5 translation offices willing to do the translation for you.

Many of them are on the ground floor ... but some of them are located on the next level up.

Beware of the 'helpful' men in the foyar ... they simply tout you to the office who pays them to do so.

We got our newborn Thai Birth Certificates translated there (the Trendy Building) this month.

The cost was Bt 400.

Now, some tips ...

When you get the translation done, ask how much for a copy.

In a few years time, your child may need an original copy of the translation.

We got some copies done ... we eventually haggled the price of the copy down to Bt100, but most seem to cost Bt200.

When you submit the application, if you get it at the embassy, as if they will accept a photocopy of the Birth Certificate translation.

If you use the VFS service, they notorise the documents for free. Don't give the original translation.
