Grenade attack on Tonson Tower in Lumphini

3-18-2014-10-39-03-AM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- A hand grenade was thrown at Tonson Tower building in Lumphini area but did not explode.

Security gaurds at Tonson Tower heard an impact sound of an object falling on the ground at about 5.20 a.m. Tuesday. They rushed to see and find a hand grenade lying on the ground.

They immediately alerted Lumphini police.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) police arrived and said it was a MK 2 hand grenade.

One officer said it did not explode because a safety pin which has been pulled out was broken while hitting the floor.

But EOD officer it was ready to explode anytime because the pin has been pulled out.

The grenade landed in front of the gate to the Tonson Tower, about 100 meters away from an army bunker on Chidlom intersection to Ploenchit intersection.

Police said there are no CCTV cameras near the building.

The Tonson Tower houses a property development firm, Noble Development, owned by the Thanat Tanakitamnuay family.

A few days earlier, the property firm owner blew whistle at Deputy Prime Minister Kittirat na Ranong while taking part in a football match.

Nothing unusual..........you blow a whistle, you have a grenade thrown at you.

Direct instructions from the new UDD leader.

"One officer said it did not explode because a safety pin which has been pulled out was broken while hitting the floor."

If this officer had picked up the grenade he would have been nominated fro a "Darwin' award

If you insist, but where I come from if you hear a whistle during a football match the game stops and you see what the ref has blown up for this time (no pun intended, if the ref is Mike Dean and you hear a whistle, you know it is going to be a yellow card or a penalty, or both)

Again a grenade.
Good no one was injured
In the last 4 months over 100 grenade-, bombs and firearms attacks have taken place
How many cases have been cleared up yet?
How much of this crazy murderers – shooters were caught until today?
0, Zero from over 100 + attacks?!!!!
The police leadership include CMPO/CAPO and DSI should immediately resign for incompetence.
Is a bad feeling that the whole crazy shooters freely walk around still.
Not a single culprit caught.
The state should stop to pay the police officers, for refusing to work.

Serious observers of Thai politics are left stunned and shocked by the ramping up of violence that has coincided by the out-on-bail-for-terrorism-charges Jatuporn being thrust into the UDD head position. Nobody could have foreseen this happening.

Very strange no grenade or bomb thrown to the dem's ever explodes, but to civilians and police they do explode.?

Anyone has an answer on that ?

Very strange that most violence seems to be aimed at anti-government protesters, those civilians who do not get proper police protection. Anyone got an answer to that?

"Serious observers of Thai politics" would wait until investigations have been carried out by the relevant officials and announcements made rather than make baseless accusations influenced by their own blind prejudice and hatred.

is that the "baseless accusation" in question?

I agree with you, if the ref blows his whistle, it is an indication that something wrong happened during the match.

Unfortunately, thousands of whistles are blown nowadays, but none of the wrongdoers in this government stop.

Should we replace Sutherp with Mike Dean?

May be somebody will listen and stop.

Police are completely useless. Exactly zero perpetrators charged with grenade attacks in recent time. You know what, that probably means they are being thrown by one side.

And here I was, silly me, believing that the Thai police are so powerful they can solve any crime at any time.

Always disturbing to read that somehow a TNT-stuffed fragmentation grenade (MK 2 grenade)...

is a justifiable reaction to Winnie the Pooh (anti-government whistle)...

Investigations where?

In a period of 4 months not one of these bombers was caught so far!

Yes, the last one who attempted to do a similar thing ended up with serious injuries to his legs. He, however was trying to save his colleagues from injury, after a grenade was thrown at them during a peaceful PDRC rally.

A "Darwin" award would hardly be appropriate for that brave policeman, don't you think, rubl? Actually, I already know that answer.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm I was in the Army for 36 years and my experience of grenades was that when you pulled the pin out and threw it, it exploded after x seconds. If it didn't, it was faulty.

Police believed the attackers may have targeted the NACC office but missed, The home owners said they have no conflict with anyone.

On March 5, a MK II hand grenade was thrown into the NACC premises but no one was wounded. (MCOT online news)

Tarit has said that replacing the SOE with the ISA will help Thailand's image and help tourism which is about par for the course when it comes to stupid comments.

Changing the name of legislation and the committee overseeing it won't help anyone / anything with bombs and various other acts of violence still happening far too regularly and with no one being able to control them.

Maybe Tarit's next post will be running TAT.

But in the real world of Thailand, the words "brave" and "policeman" somehow do'nt fit together. Try "corrupt" and "policeman". Now, that has a much more sincere ring to it.... w00t.gif

Flame removed. Keep it civil please.

Nice to have you back, fabs, really missed you yesterday.

Now back to the OP with yet another grenade thrown by 'unknowns' who obviously must be related to the anti-government protesters as they do these type of things. Good k. Surapong suggested to replace the Emergency Decree with an ISA. With all violence really needed and I'm sure he can explain to the international community and the UN why that is really needed.

Of course all his activities keep him really busy, just like Ms. Yingluck. None of them have found the time yet to expain to the Ombudsman why a criminal fugitive got a passport. A bit off topic I'm afraid, but unavoidable with an undemocratic government which called upon itself these anti-government protests by trying to push through a blanket amnesty bill which even covered the first two years of Ms. 'rice scam' Yingluck's government. Something even the UDD leaders managed to let their supporters forget. K. Jatuporn talked about a big battle ahead and 'no weapons', maybe some supporters didn't get the message, maybe it was in English only like the "peaceful protesters, not terrorists'.

"At around 9pm, on Monday night, M-79 grenade was shot and landed at a home of Gen Noppadol Intapanya, a retired army general, in Nonthaburi Soi 41, nor far from the office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). ... The list is getting longer, but still some blame the anti-government protesters. Go figure.

Always disturbing in three ways.

1. The media for not so subtly inferring a link between a grenade thrown at a building and the fact that the building was owned by a person who blew a whistle at the DPM at a football match a few days earlier

2. The hard of thinking lapping this story up

3. The even more hard of thinking linking the grenade thrown at a building, a whistle blown at the DPM and Jatuporn taking over as head of the UDD

"One officer said it did not explode because a safety pin which has been pulled out was broken while hitting the floor."

All violence is to be condemned.
It does not matter which t-shirt color a murderer is wearing .
Who throws grenades, place bombs or shooting at people should be locked up for a long long time.
And that does not work here in this country!
